Make backlight darker?

On my 2i the screen brightness, even with slider set to '1' value ( obviously not '0' ) is a bit too, well, bright!

I'm sure I once installed some software ( seem to think it was Phone Alarm or something... ) which allowed me to set the brightness to a percentage ie. 5% I'm convinced was a little dimmer than '1' on the slider thingy.

Does anyone have a clue what I'm waffling on about, or is there something i can alter to reduce the brightness even further?

PS I don't want to turn it off completely and it is not an attempt to lengthen battery life. I just like it :|
