Hi everyone...

I read some time ago, that from Windows Mobile 5.0 on, microsoft would converge the smartphone and pocketpc OS APIs into one, but then, how do I install PPC Cabs on my sp5m?? It says that the application was not developed for my device.

How come?? Do I need the unpacked contents of the PPC install (to manually put them on the phone) or no luck either?

thanks

bye

My understanding is that this is still not possible.

I think members have reported that there are some PPC applications that will install on a Smartphone but generally this is not the case. Anything I've tried has failed.

There is still a big difference in control - keypad & softkeys vs stylus & D-pad - and I doubt we'll see unified versions of software until the Smartphone & Pocket PC platforms are properly merged.

thanks discostu,

so I ask another question to you...

It's normal that the phone easily hangs completely, even for a 3rd party bug or similar?

I've installed ExplodeArena (a bomberman-style arcade) and was playing it when I wanted to go to the homescreen without quitting the game...

Well, pressing the home button made the phone completely hang, instantly. The keyboard backlight was working (turning on&off) but I couldn't do anything.

So I must power down the phone (hold power btn for a couple seconds), and AFTER AT LEAST 2 MINUTES it actually shuts down.

The same thing happened with doomCe, except that the game freezed with a gray screen and I wanted to branch back to the homescreen and terminate it with the taskmanager... phone completely hung and reboot needed.

It's beginning to bug me a bit...

I wonder what would happen if I receive a call during the game!! Phone hung & call missed!!!!????

I've always thought windows mobile was far better than this at multitasking... I would like to know if it's a rom issue or if its by design.... :)

We have always had the problem of not enough memory.

Games with detailed complex graphics are notorious for freezing the phone and I would always reboot before playing them. If you don't exit them properly and start another application you will quickly run out of program memory.

Of course the problem is that we always want to push these devices beyond their limits, which is why some operators install the application lock. I do though think that WM05 is much better at recovering from crashes than previous versions of Windows Mobile.

People, thank god you are wrong! It can be done.

If you want some examples on this forum there are some examples.

If you would like to learn how to do this in the most simple way, check MY TOPIC where I've ported a Game Boy Advance emulator for pocket pc to WM 5 smartphone devices, using FakeCursor

The other way is to using MenuHack, that is a little bit complicated, as you can see in THIS TOPIC, where you have to configure MenuHack, corresponding to the app you are using.

Hope I've helped...

Hey there!

Glad to see other people are having success running PPC apps on a smartphone!

I'm a big fan of SPhelper myself, and I have many PPC apps that run just fine on my tornado device as well.

Problem is, I recently ran into my first problem app.

MSI Blueplayer is a little app that is supposed to stream mp3's to a2dp headsets with far better quality than the MS bluetooth stack. The problem is that even though all .exe and .dll files are in place, the program complains that "MPBOCE or one of its libraries can not be found". I know everything is in the right place because when I try to manually install the files on a PPC device by copying them in the EXACT same way, it DOES operate. Is it possible that the code here is referencing a path that is PPC specific, and therefore it can't find it on a smartphone device?

Anyone with any experience in this care to help?

Thanks!
