Guest akawsh Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Team, my newly arrived SP5 came with a directory already called "Storage Card" but no card installed. I just installed a 1GB mini-SD - I now have an additional directory called "Storage Card 2" which is a removable drive (so therefore is the card). "Storage Card" is just a folder on / How do I get rid of "Storage Card" and rename "Storage Card 2" to "Storage Card"? Cheers!
Guest merwin Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Try performing a hard reset of your device. That should restore it to a normal state. Aside from that, there's probably some registry tweak that you can do, but I haven't looked into that at all.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Remove the card and with a file explorer try deleting the non existant storage card. This problem has also been seen on PPC with WM5
Guest kc1 Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 ...now have an additional directory called "Storage Card 2" which is a removable...How do I get rid of "Storage Card" and rename "Storage Card 2" to "Storage Card"? I had a similar problem when I attempted the hack/tweak to place email attachments onto the storage card (which I did have installed). As soon as I did that, the "Storage Card 2" folder appeared and I could only get rid of it by resetting/reinstalling the ROM from scratch.
Guest akawsh Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Sorted, thanks for the suggestions. Had to do a hard reset, lost my operator logo etc in the process - anyone know where this comes from?
Guest bjde0b Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I have had this problem as the fix is a fairly lengthy solution. 1. I have the IE cache on the storage card along with emails. When it changes your storage card to storage card 2 and keeps the folder storage card, the messages and cache went to storage card. You can't rename storage card 2 to storage card because the system wont let you due to registry. I went into the registry and changed everything that was routed to storage card folder and changed it to storage card 2. Then I soft reset. Then I deleted the storage card folder. If it wont delete then you haven't unlinked everything yet. Delete the folder and then I am not sure if I was then able to rename storage card 2 to storage card or if I had to go back to registry then change all the keys back to storage card that way I could change a rooted directory that was locked. Reset again then rename storage card 2 back to storage card and everything should be normal. this has happened twice to me. I am glad I figured this solution out the second time. I can give registry codes if needed just let me know.
Guest kc1 Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 ...everything that was routed to storage card folder... I tried this as well the first time, but probably didn't find everything. Can you tell us what things you found linked to the folder? I can give registry codes if needed just let me know. That would be helpful too.
Guest bjde0b Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 I haven't been on here for a while but I never did reply to this question, but I had this problem again so I wanted to help others out. Go to the regedit and select HKCU Software Microsoft MAPI In MAPI change both AttachPath and PropertyPath to Storage Card2 go back to Microsoft directory and select Windows Current Version Explorer Shell Folders Then change Cache, Cookies and History the same as you did with the others Turn off phone then back on. Delete the folder Storage Card since your storage card is actually storage card 2. Turn off phone again. It should automatically rename the Storage Card back to Storage Card not Storage Card2.
Guest kam_ Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Actually i found you can just soft boot the phone, then open file manager, delete Storage Card, then soft boot again. As long as you don't run IE or the messaging/mail app the above isn't necesary. It seems to be a common problem of the card getting stuck when you sync mail directly to it.

My SP5 decided to do this little trick over the weekend. The instructions above worked for me but I had to do the deletes from my computer (synch...explore device/etc) as my mobile wouldn't let me delete the desktop.ini files. (To make sure outlook didn't try to load up and synch, I also set synch to 'manual' before I connected to my desktop....this may have been unneccesary, ymmv)
