Guest greyt Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 I can't believe I am struggling with this :- I recently purchased an I-Mate Jamin, ideally I would like to configure several VPN connections to my client sites so that I can carry out remote support in an emergency. I have started off with a single VPN connection and cannot get it to connect automatically - and most of the time highlighting it and selecting connect does nothing. I have changed Network Management so that both Internet and Private Networks use "My Work Network" Can anyone give any guidance or recommend any good VPN software. Ideally I just want it to work like XP where I manually select a VPN config and connect! If this makes any difference I am currently trying to connect over GPRS - but would like the option of it working over wireless as well.
Guest greyt Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Answering part of my own question in case it helps anyone else :- By default the I-mate has configured 2 connections under "My Work Network", one was WAP - can't remember what the other was, anyway deleting these so that there are no entries then allows you to highlight a VPN connection and select connect. This now works reliably. I now just have the problem of poor VPN implementation by Microsoft. I can't believe that WM5 still relies on fully qualified domain names to assume a device is on the Internet on not on your internal network. The exceptions implementation will not work in this situation either!
Guest fraser Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 IMHO the networking is shoddy all round. You can't even change the port number the email uses. Hello? Security? I'm not running an ISP here! ;) I unsuccessfully tried VPN once, might give it another go one day. They don't make it easy for you, with all the bizare wizards they use. Just gimmie a control panel!
