Guest hotlatte Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 (edited) Does someone know how much will it cost to listen to a radio through your phone. I am on vodafone and have free GPRS bundle in my tariff. Has anyone used their phone to listen to RADIO? Does anyone know how much bandwidth is used. Please try to give an example. I mean if i listen to the radio for 4 hours a day how much bandwidth would I have used? I asked my network vodafone and "as usual" they didnt have a clue what i was asking them. My phone is SPV. Thanks. Edited February 27, 2006 by hotlatte

Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 I have not measured the actual usage but it will be a fair size as with straming video it's a constant data rate.
Guest martin Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 It's possible to ma a fairly accurate estimate of GPRS usage for radio streaming :) Cost is charged per MegaByte by the Network Operator. 1 Megabyte= 8 Megabits= 8000000 bits (using 1000bits for estimation purpose) If the radio stream was 20Kbps (Kilo bits per second) then you would get approximately (8000000bits/20000bps)= 400 seconds (or 6 mins 40 seconds) of streaming time. Obviously the higher the bitrate of the stream, the less streaming time you get per MegaByte. So, for instance, if you were charged £3 per MB from your operator then 4 minutes of streaming @ 20Kbps would cost approx ((£300/400s)*240s)= £1.80 I think :D
