How CAB files can totally screw up a phone?

Hi all I've got an i-mate SP5m with the last rom version.

It's the second time I have to hard reset it because of.... well... I don't know what!!!!

First time I tried to install the Worms World Party demo in the smartphone's memory, the installation failed and the OS stopped working.

Yesterday I've installed the WWP demo (PocketPC version this time) in the PC and aborted the phone transfer.

Then I suppose activesync has done all the work for me  and tried to install all the stuff.....

Anyway when I checked the phone it was non-working again.

And now on to the "symptoms" section. When the phone is screwed up:

- On the next startup, the next one only, a message displays saying that it was "Unable to install " (where app_name is the app i tried to install)

- It's IMPOSSIBLE to change any setting at all. Any setting screen under the Settings menu crashes with "Unable to open settings".

Even ring profile cannot be changed, either via the power button or via the settings menu.

- Cannot delete programs. The Remove programs list under the Settings menu is empty.

- Cannot install programs in either way, manual or via sync. It displays a generic error.

- Activesync on the PC displays a generic error just after the connection jingle plays. It lets me not delete the application remotely (using the builtin program manager): after the dialog asking for confirmation, the window closes and no action is performed. However full browsing is possible.

Well... I need HELP!!!

Any thought, tip, trick, hack, you think can help, write it there!

I'll Hard Reset now because i NEED my phone integrally and not chopped to 20% functionality, but it's SURE that I won't solve the problem at the root

And anyway it's unacceptable that installing (not even running!!!!) a single cab damages to this extent all the OS.

Thanks
