Guest Honest John Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 When configuring the Today screen, the Items that can either appear or not include "Device lock". Now you can unlock the device with the "On" button, but if you remove the Device lock from the home screen, how can you lock the device? Just curious and wondering if I am missing something?
Guest stunno Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 You can lock/unlock it by pressing the On/Off button, but if you lock it that way then any programs stop running. So its pretty useless if youo are listening to music!
Guest chucky.egg Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Yeah, I was looking for a way to link to the Device Lock function, so that you can have it as a Program without having to lose the Today space for it. Never did find a way to do it though  Screen Guard is supposed to be updated any day now to support WM5, and that was the best of the "screen lockers" that I tried (and I tried loads!) Screen lockers work like Device Lock and disable the screen and/or buttons without turning the device off
Guest daftveggie Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 settings / today / items device lock really is there!!!
Guest Honest John Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 settings / today / items device lock really is there!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, I know. This is where I would untick the option so it doesn't show on the screen. Now, after unticking it, how do I lock the screen? That was the question.
Guest chucky.egg Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 The answer remains - "You dont!" (AFAIK) You cant have a shortcut to is in Programs, or a button mapping, because it's not an executable file in the device - I honestly dont know how it works but it may be a built-in WM5 function (which would suggest it must be accessible like that somehow...) There aren't any Screen Lockers for WM5 yet (again, AFAIK) so the only option is to keep it on the Today screen
Guest Honest John Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 The answer remains - "You dont!" (AFAIK) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, I understood from your previous reply. Thanks. I was attempting to clarify the problem for DaftVeggie in case he thought he had solved it.
Guest daftveggie Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I'm sorry, I'm an idiot!!! just don't understand why you'd want to remove it from the today screen :) sorry
Guest Honest John Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I'm sorry, I'm an idiot!!! just don't understand why you'd want to remove it from the today screen ;) sorry <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's the whole point. Why give that option, unless someone would not want to lock their device at all, unless..........there was another way of locking it by a hidden tip/trick. That's why I wrote but if you remove the Device lock from the home screen, how can you lock the device? Just curious and wondering if I am missing something? If, for example, you could lock it by pressing two buttons together, then you wouldn't need the little touch area on the Home screen. But as chucky.egg confirms, there doesn't seem to be.
Guest minty1978 Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 i removed it from my home screen, as i now use a different program for locking. see this thread for more info: http://www.modaco.com/Auto_Device_Lockl-t236827.html my unlock now requires two buttons to be pressed at the same time, therefore i'm less likely to accidently unlock it...
Guest Honest John Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 i removed it from my home screen, as i now use a different program for locking. see this thread for more info: http://www.modaco.com/Auto_Device_Lockl-t236827.html my unlock now requires two buttons to be pressed at the same time, therefore i'm less likely to accidently unlock it... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks - will try it
Guest JimDerDog Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Hi folks - slightly different approach on this...I have Tomtom loaded and notice that the Tomtom option on the start menu is in much bigger type than the other items, so is easier to tap. All the other options are ok in the small size, so I dont want to change the main font size, but i would like to make the Device Unlocked line bigger and easier to hit. Is there any way I can change the font size of just this line?? All help appreciated JimDer
Guest f00bs Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 (edited) sightly off topic but i use deltalock when playing music etc... it's an executable (and can therefore be mapped to a hardware button etc) and requires two keys to be pressed at the same time to unlock, so there's less chance of it unlocking itself in my pocket... (altho if you wanted a one-button unlock like i have set up on my old XDAii i use as a music player, just set both unlock buttons to be the same one...) so in summary, not a 'tap-to lock' kinda thing but a 'one button to lock' thingy... but at least it frees up your today screen! :P i think it can be found here: http://www.deltadevelopment.de/users/christoph/deltaLock/ hope that helps! :edit: bear in mind this prog blanks the screen while 'locked' so as to save battery... so if you want locking with the screen on like the today one, it's not much help... :) Edited July 20, 2007 by f00bs
Guest mandt Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Guys, the best solution by far: Search xda developers for 'yet another device lock' by matt armstrong. I've used it for about a year now and its pretty much perfect, it lets you: remove the today screen plugin choose between lock device or sleep device have it run a program after its locked Oh yeah and its FREE
Guest mandt Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Hmm, just noticed this thread's about a year old :)
