orange spv c550 stuck in flight mode

Daughters phone - stuck in flight mode.

power 2 toggles the mode but the screen just says flight mode and unable to send or receive. Have not tried Orange yet as cannot find a number to reach a sympathetic ear.

Please help.

Before trying a hard reset have you tried rebooting the phone and turning flight mode off?

Also I have found it can take a while for the change to take effect.

Thanks for replying.

Have tried to switch it off. The menu toggles between on and off so appears to work there, but when I exit the menu, the top of the phone still says 'flight mode'

I have seen one other comment on a BB for this error on this same phone but no resolution or replies to it.

I have now contacted orange and they have passed it onto their technical support team, but I do not expect a timely resolution.

What is involved in a hard reset and is it easy to do? what info will I lose if any on the phone?

A hard reset will restore your device to it's out of the box state and as a result you'll lose any applications or documents stored/installed on the device that aren't standard.

To hard reset, with the device off hold the left and right softkeys and press the power button for approx 2seconds. Continue to hold the softkeys and you will see a message instructing to press a button to hard reset. Follow the instruction to hard reset.

Remember, you'll lose all contacts/sms/mms/documents on the phone...

Documents on storage cards are unaffected so move anything essential to there (applications still need to be reinstalled however)

Thanks for your reply pondrew but I tried holding the left and right soft keys but the unit just powers on as normal.

Do not get a hard reset option even after holding the soft keys, throughout the startup.

Any ideas?

Timing is important and the operator bootup screen will appear BEFORE you let go of the softkeys and before the instruction on how to hard reset appears.

Another thing to check is that you're not trying to do the hard reset while the power supply or usb cable is plugged in.

Not sure where the timing issue was a problem at first, but in the end a light press of the power button for about 1.5 seconds(if that is possible) and then wait whilst still holding the soft keys.

Wiped all info off the phone but now working.

I had the same problem, couldnt turn the thing off flight mode, and tried a few ways using the power button switching on/off no joy. the only way I got it working was attempting to dial, at which point the phone asks if you want to turn off flight mode, for some reason doing it this way worked, whereas flight mode on/off didnt.

me too same problem, seem to not like going off flight mode.

I just found it takes a while to come back to normal after turning on flight mode.

it is trying to find the network again, so leave it for bit and it should return

Mike if your getting the tri colour screen then your holding the camera and/or voice notes button in insted of the 2 softkeys.

Switch the device off.

Press and hold both the left and right soft keys and keep them held down.

Press and quickly release the power key, DO NOT hold it down until the screen comes on. Wait a few seconds and the reset screen telling you to press 0 should appear.

If this does not work, then have a look on www.orange.co.uk and see if there is a rom update on there, if there is download that to your PC, switch the device on, get the tri colour screen, then plug the device into your USB cable and plug it into the PC, then click on the update and follow the onscreen instructions.
