It seems the new T-mobile plans offer some great deals - so I'm likely to take the plunge & get myself a Vario or Compact II.

Does anyone have any experience of trying to run Skype on either of these devices? (The compact obviously with a sd wi-fi card). The Skype website says you need 312 MHz to run Skype for PPC - & my understanding is that both the Vario & Compact II clock just under 200MHz.

I'm frequently overseas, so Skype would be a huge bonus - any help much appreciated.

do a google for omap overclock.

I am thinking of upgrading to one of these phones and have been reading how overclocking allows skype to be used successfully. They appear to run stable clocked between 240 and 260.

Thanks. Has anyone verified that Skype doesn't run at their 'standard' clock speed? The Vario looks the best option for me, but not being able to run Skype on it would be a big downer.

I've had the program running, but I wasn't terribly happy about the quality of the call

last time I looked Skype do a lower clock speed version

might be worth overclocking the vario and running the lower clock version.

I'd second that. I've got the lower clock speed version of skye running on my Vario but haven't overclocked yet. The chat functions work well and it seems quite stable now, but the voice call quality is pretty poor. I'ts just about possible to hold a conversation, but it's hard work!

OMAPclock seems to be getting some great feedback and is certainly doing away with some of my fears about getting the Wizard, Charmer or Prophet.

I especially like the idea that you can change the shortcut of an app so that the processor increases speed for that app, then changes back to normal when the app is closed.

That does sound pretty nifty!

I've also just noticed that the T-mobile USA variant of the SDA has wi-fi built in. Have Skype launched a version for Smartphones, or only for PPC?
