I just bought a new qtek 8310.

It is just so sad, when you open a new product and get dissapointed, which happend to me. I hope the reseller will swap it tomorrow for a new one?

Anyway, the core of my problem is that the LCD screen seems to be slightly tilted - especially at the bottom of the screen - with lines not totally straight in relation to the rest of the phone and buttons.

I realize I´m somewhat picky, but was surprised that no-one else seems to have had this problem (after having searched here on MoDaCo as well as on xda-developers for the problem) ?

Has anyone else noticed a slight tilt of the LCD screen?!

Mine has a "pan setting" a bit to the right  I know it sounds funny, but I saw it right away, thus the dissappointment.

I do really believe it will become anoying for me, so I plan to go have the phone returned tomorrow, as I am hoping the reseller will swap it for a new one - without the same problem, as I do consider it a flaw.

Other than that, I really like the phone. It seems very promising... and I guess that you probably could live with the problem - if you aren't a perfectionist, unlike me ;)

Cheers,

Gnuig

PS. On the same topic, just having noticed as well, the pointer seems a bit off center as well. Hope all this this will not become a SP5 epidemic. Those we can live without, from previous SPV models! L8R.

Unfortunately most of them have a slight misalignment of the screen- I looked at 5 i-mate SP5's in the shop and got the one that looked least bad. It is only very slight, and you do learn to live with it.

Worth bearing in mind that the plastic screen protector has a distorting effect, so make sure you examine your phone with this removed before coming to any conclusion!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I thought I was the only one to notice. Now I will definately demand a new phone.

Why hasn't anyone posted this BEFORE i decided to purchase it?

Maybe I'm just lousy at doing a search? ... please prove me wrong.

It just seems unreasonable, if most phones, as you say, have this issue and nobody complained about it yet. HTC IMHO make good devices, but come-on. A production mistake like this should be fixed and devices with the fault replaced!!!

It is only very slight, and you do learn to live with it.

I disagree. You are saying this means I have to accept a faulty device... no way! I don't think anyone should accept this.

Someone may be reading this now, looking at their beautiful SP5/Qtek 8310 wondering the same thing, I know I did, when I realized that the screen isn't straight. I for one hope for a new phone without the problem or at least that the one I purchased gets fixed, thus correcting the fault. It just worries me to think of sending a "1 day old" phone in for repair.

I really like the phone... but as an engineer myself, I feel that if a unit has a production fault, it must be fixed and all customers compensated either with a new phone without the problem or their money back!

I hope to get a new one without the problem later today... but knowing the place I purchesed from (they seem like good guys) I am almost sure they will refer me to have the phone repaired. Scary! I'll give you all names later, especially if I get really mad. I'll let you all know!

I never stops to amaze me what quality issues phones can get away with, just for running Windows Mobile. Ever since I wanted a SP3, but never got it, since almost every singe one of them had a joystick that would simply fall off, I have read about this things, that people for some reason seem to accept.

I am happy to actually not have a missaligned screen, but if I did, I would return it in a heart beat. People accepting these things are the reason for the WM devices generally being crappy when it comes to build quality.

I just can't see the logic here. We have phones that are functionally superior to normal phones, yet our phones seem to be low, low budget, compared to the better "dumb" phones.

;)

The store where I purchased mine did however agree that the 8310 I recieved had a very misalligned screen, and said it shouldn't be like that. I guess I must have gotten a "really bad" sample. Still, can't help wondering if any other poor "souls" have one, without realizing. Didn't seem to wonder the store though, as they said they had seen these misallignments with other phones as well??

I just don't recall this from any of my Nokias :?:

Wonder what the build quality of other phones is like these days  It would be a shame to think HTC (afterall a premier PDA builder) wouldn't have picked something like this up on a production line.

Nonetheless, I hope to get a new one from the shop monday/tuesday.

As I said previously, I'm really excited about this phone, although having had a bad SPV experience from about 3-4 years back. Still, I guess, I'm back for more.

The store promised to swap it for another one, yet didn't have any left in the store, but would get one for me at one of their other stores in the city.

I'll let you all know...

By the way, forgot to mention, the 8310 I plan to consider as my "second" phone. Still #1 is my 1 year old Nokia 9500, although it doesn't seem as fun as the new PPC phones (or the 8310 for that matter). Maybe it is still superior, just because it works with what I need daily (great sms/e-mail , word/powerpoint/pdf works well, good overall added functions such as fax, sms to lockup phone - if ever (god forbid) it was stolen, good mms and so on ... something I never did get my Qtek 2020 able to do! )

Lastly, I do hope to use the 8310 for skype as well as with tomtom (and my bluetooth gps). I tried to read up on previous post regarding these topics and do believe it will do these things for me... at least with skype, when they (soon I think) release skype for smartphones, although the solution with overclocking and fix for mapping the pointer to work with the PPC version seems pausable too. Anyway, just excited to try it all out I guess. The qtek 8310 seems just as cabable as the comming S200, just without the keypad (which I would like - plus for the 8310) allthough with a 2MP camera instead... just a little minus for me, since I really don't use the camera that mucj.

Did look at posibly waiting for the qtek S200 or getting the eten m600, just think they are still a bit "too big" as my needs seem to have changed a lot over the years, with my wishes for a smaller "more pocketable" phone.

Kinda envious of my girlfriends Nokia 8800, although way, way to unsuperiour technologically, i believe.

Have a continued nice weekend everybody!

I got a replacement!

Very nice.

I must compliment the Telia store where I purchased the phone, as they were very understanding and accepted the previous qtek 8310 as a lemon.

They said it was a really bad sample, so I am sure I was one of the few.

Also, I believe dangaard.dk, who is the main distributer of qtek phones here in Denmark are doing a good job.

I actually have decided to go with the S200 instead, and will therefore sell my otherwise now "oh-so-pretty" 8310.

I just thought the 2MP camera and PPC operating system is more my style. Really the 8310 is a nice phone, yet I still see the limitations of WM5 smartphone for mobiles.

Thought it had changed, but no... PPC WM5 seems like the only real thing.

Did get the 8310 running skype, with the fakecursor and all... incl. the OMAP clock set to 240MHz, yet not really what I had imagined. The 8310 is truly a fine mobile, yet the lack of touchscreen, I see now, is really a must in the WM invironment, I feel. Anyway...

So, all-in-all, I just ordered an s200 via expansys(.dk) as I am sure this mobile will make me a happy camper. I have read various posts that skype runs ok on this phone, as I am sure it will do the same for me.

Cheers & L8R ;)
