Smartphone programming - device choice

I have been thinking of buying smartphone to programme advance aplication for it.

I need to know what model is best to avoid any problems and if a producer will allow sdk.

what would you recommend ?

there really isnt a "best" model - they are all similar for programmers.

C500 is fine and so is an imate SP5m - get the latest with WM5 on it as its new and you can build future applications on WM5 and perhaps SQL Server CE, if your into that stuff!

but would also at the same time be nice if it were "backward" compatible, so pretty much generally anything created for the WM2003 devices work on WM5 devices.

but remember, PPC and smartphones are different - generally again, most PPC Apps do NOT work on the smartphone as they are a different platform/architecture
