So yesterday I decided to do it. I went out and got me a Qtek 8310 Smartphone. Whazzaaaah!

It boots up, fine. I can receive and make calls, great! I can save phone numbers, oh yeah! I CAN'T lock the keypad.

There´s the phone lock function that does it automatically, is this the only way?

I'm entirely and utterly green on Windows Mobile and I want to know all about it, so my guess more questions are to come.

So with all the expertise here. Is this the place to get help?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

I think holding the hang up button will lock the keypad, for some help checkout the 48 hours with a smartphone page

Everyone will be happy to answer questions and modaco is the best for Windows Mobile advice, i mean were all new once and all appreciated the help!

thats right, generally on handsets if you press and hold the red (hang up) button for a couple of seconds it will lock the keypad

Thanks! Thats great! Thought I was going to have to input a password every time I wanted the keypad to be locked.

So to my next problem. I'm trying to connect to my PC running Windows XP Pro and ActiveSync 4. ActiveSync doesn't come out of the "retreiving settings" that comes up as soon as I connect my phone.

Edit: So here's what might be wrong.

When I connected my phone my PC didn't take me through the connection setup wizard. I haven't set any options for my phone at all. Human error or not, now it seems to think it recognizes my phone, but really it doesn't seem to be getting anywhere.

How do I delete my device in order to install it again?

This is what I thought might be the problem, any other advice is very welcome.

Thanks!

I just re-installed ActiveSync with no luck. The device is recognized as the qtek 8310 (which of course is correct) but still ActiveSynd stops at "Retreiving settings".

I'd really appreciate any help to get my phone to talk with my computer.

Thanks all!

edit: Damn firewall!!! Problem solved..

you need to delete the partnership on the phone - so in the phone load activesync and in options/settings there maybe something like an option to delete the partnership.

try that and then connect it back to the PC

So to my next question.

Right from when I took my 8310 out of the box, there´s a small between the joystick and the contact pads. What I mean is, the joystick is sort of loose in its place. You can flick it around a couple of mm. in each direction and it hangs down a mm or so when the phone is standing up.

Is this normal? Should I ask for a replacement?

Thanks all!

Maybe we need to make a new thread for this...?

since there´s an entire section about the models, somebody has to own one..

mine does the same !

and i wondering the exact same thing... i dont like it

...cause on the SPV c600 (similiar to this one) the joystick is very solid no free movement what so ever.
