Guest jimbouk Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Although you can use the device as a USB modem, I am pretty sure that internet pasthrough only works the other way.
Guest karim099 Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 while connecting my Sp5m via usb to the pc i noticed that the phone doesnt take an ip from my router.but while trying to surf using PIE even when the wifi is off, i was surprised that the mobile takes connection fromt he PC thats a good thing. but it should work vice versa in some way... the mobile as a wifi adapter for the pc...
Guest kam_ Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 The connection is encapsulated over USB using RNDIS protocol. You'll notice on the PC a new 'activesync' interface appears and takes an arbitary address. This is routed using your computers routing table - i.e. to your default router by activesync. Because RNDIS is used to sync activesync too, WiFi on the phone is disabled. Otherwise the phone would have 2 default routes and not be able to diferentiate between them. If you disable RNDIS mode, and use USB mode then you can turn WiFi back on, but then your out of luck routing to your phone's IP because technically it doesn't have one on that interface. The data is sent over the USB link as normal data frames, and activesync encapsulates them and puts them onto the TCP stack. Bottom line, the functionality isn't supported in Activesync in USB mode, and the RNDIS USB connection conflicts with the WiFi connection in RNDIS mode. So... it isn't going to work ;)
