Hi all,

I'm possibly thinking of getting a new smartphone, either the c600 or a qtek 8310/i-mate sp5. The reason for the qtek/i-mate is the wifi.

I'm not new to the windows smartphone platform having owned the original spv when it came out, but ptoblems with the power switch & voicemail icon problems caused me to dump it. Tried the c500 which seemed alot better but the reception seemed an issue.

I currently have a Treo 650 (which i'm looking to sell) and a i-mate jam. The Jam is fine but I realise I need a keypad, hence the Treo 650. But i'm a fussy old so & so and i'm never happy!

So having a long think I thought maybe if I just get a wifi card for my i-mate and then just get a normal phone.

My main smartphone use will be internet and sat nav, which is great on the i-mate jam, but as a phone it's not the best (more pda than phone). As for wifi, well I thought it would be nice that if I found an open hotspot while i'm shopping I could always use that to check mail, prices etc. But to honest I don't know how many places have hot spots which are open like that and therefore if it is really cosidering, although I have a wifi router so I suppose I could use it at home. Also having the i-mate jam & stylus in your and makes you look super geeky & a good mugging target ! Also carring loads of devices is never fun, but I guess it's a case of jack of all trades, master of none.

After a good read here I see the world is not perfect in terms of bugs, so I looked at the world of Nokia 6680/N70, but it looks the even worse (especially sat nav problems via bluetooth).

Your views/experiences would be greatly appreciated

My phone of choice at the moment is the Vario (Wizard) as it does everything I need. Just had to get all the T-Mobile junk off first and unlock the extended ROM and all is fine ;)

I think you need you need to start a new topic for this question in the correct smartphone category for your handset.

SP5 = sexy.

SP5m = ugly.

Similarily:

SP3 = ugly.

SP3i = nice.

I have the SP5.

It's very nice, but I don't use WIFI at all.

A guy here has a C600 and it seems quite a bit smaller than the SP5 unless you actually sit them beside each other. I like the layout of the C600 keyboard better too.

I'll swap you your Treo 650 for my SP5 if you want.

I think you need to post your problem in the forum which is highligted below, which people who have the c550 may be able to help..  Also if you bought it new would your warrenty not cover it ( I know you tried to flash it and it failed) if you took it in and said it's not working anymore and played dumb ?

Do you guy's actually use the wifi ? if so what for and where. Also i'm trying to work out if you are in the first throw's of using it or you have got past the "wow look at this" and show to mates and now are at the "oh i need to do x and I have wifi and I can do it" if you get my drift

@nevawlkalone, there's a few differences aside, a major one being that the C550 has an older design of processor (OMAP 750) then the C600 (OMAP 850).

@ aty - believe me im not the type of person to brag on about something ive not used or bcos of its "coolness"

I do use wifi from home if I am downstairs or dont have my laptop downstairs with me, saves me having to go upstairs ;)

but I also use wifi in hotspots wherever possible to check email or whatever for work, even to load up a mappoint website to tell someone where a certain street or location is.....

Also it has WM5 and for newer software, can install .NET CF 2.0 and SQL Server CE - just makes things better and more up to date really for those who develop applications and so on, like myself.

As well as this, the package includes a carry case (leather) and also Anti Virus software ;)

I use the i-mate SP5 running many apps including Sat Nav. The phone is more business-like than the SP5m and I think has a more timeless design. I have had no problems with it ( 6months old) at all. I use Activesync 4.0 also with no problems and the Wi-Fi functions as it should and is the future. All in all I think it's a fantastic device. ;)

Well Just thought I'd update you all, I'm getting a qtek 8310.

The reason being simple it's got wifi and I won't look like a geek when i'm using it. I expect to make extensive use of the wifi, if not then I've wasted a shed load of money (the c600 would have been cheaper !).

I shall update this post once I have it and have had a play. If all goes well i'll then get rid of my Treo 650 and my I-mate Jam.

Thanks to all who took the time to offer their point of view, it was most appreciated.
