SPV M500 + BT tomtom

Can anyone help me. I have acquired a tom tom navigator 5.21 with v605 GBmap. I have tried to install under the 'usual' way - although when I try to start up tom tom my handset freezes as if its trying, but doesnt seem to get there. Now.. would it e that I had to 'unlock' my handset before this acquired version will work?
