Last week I upgrade my handset from a SPV C500 to the C600, swapped my memory card over and activated TomTom.

Since then, I have applied the SPV Developers Services and Sim Unlock registry changes, though now my TomTom is looking for re-activation using as different Device Code.

I have contacted TomTom support, who seem reluctant to issue me with a new activation code until I can explain why my device code has changed

As one of the developers of SPV-Services perhaps I can offer some insight as to what could be happening.

HTC Smartphones store device-specific information in the first block on the phone's flash. This block contains the phone's IMEI number, radio callibration settings, allowed radio frequency bands, and SIMLock status.

Normally this block is unique to each phone, and doesn't change even after ROM updates, etc. From what you describe it is likely that TomTom is reading the checksum at the end of this block, and wrongly assuming that this is a unique identifier which will ALWAYS stay the same on a given device. If this is the case, such an assumption is incorrect. The checksum of BDK#1 does change if the phone's configuration data is altered - this happens when the phone is unlocked (I believe it is changed in exactly the same way if you are issued and official unlock code from Orange).

I would advise that you contact TomTom, tell them that the activation stopped working after you unlocked your phone, insist that it must be a problem with their activation software, and I'm sure they'll re-issue an activation code.

I recently had my sda music replaced with a sp5m on insurance and after putting tomtom onto it i had the same issue with requiring a new code. Im dont think it has anything to do with unlocking (though could be wrong) tomtom asks for this code everytime you try and install it on a device. the code it is asking for is generated by tomtom using a phones device id which you supply to them.

As tomtom were quick to point out to me, when u purchase tomtom it is a single license only - meaning you cant go installing it on multiple devices. They enforce this by generating a unique code based on the phones device id, and then only doing this for 1 device.

The only way i got tomtom to reissue me with a new code for my new device was to fax them the letters from my mobile phone insurers, proving that it had been replaced by insurance and therefore i definately did not still have it installed elsewhere.

I think also in situations like theft of phone etc where you can prove to tomtom that you no longer have the device they will issue a new code. Your situation is slightly different because how can you prove to them you will not be running the software on 2 devices when you only purchased 1 license. Because of this i think you will have more of a struggle with them. Hope they sort you out though, it seems silly not to be able to switch tomtom software between devices as new models are released.

good luck

TomTom's 2nd line support have finally got back to me with the following responce;

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.

Please put the phone back to its original settings the phone will not work if the sim is unlocked this is a known issue with the SPV range.

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

Which doesn't help much as I need to use a US sim in my handset from next month onwards !

Problem is that re-locking my handset doesn't fix the activation problem, the only other thing I changes was the CID, is it possible to set this back again ?
