Disappointed at the XDA Generally

I'm amazed at how unreliable my XDA Mini is. It crashes and freezes almost every day. Syncing works when it wants to, WAP and MMS don't work at all and the Chronos alarms that I've added are also temperamental.

I like the design and the size of it, but I'm getting more than a little fed up with its behaviour, and I'm afraid to say that the cons are now staring to outweigh the pros. I never many problems with my old p910i. OK, the odd crash and it's a bit on the chunky side, but at least it worked 99% of the time. Not something I can say about the XDA.

So, the time may have come to flog the bloody thing on eBay and get another p910i...

Hi, I just want to make sure that you're referring to the XDA Mini S, and not the XDA Mini... If you mean just the XDA Mini, then this is the wrong forum ;) You're looking for the HTC Magician ;) Sorry to hear about your misfortune with your phone! I've heard nothing but good things about them!

No, it's a Mini S/HTC Wizard. I might give it one last chance, but I doubt it.

I've been using my MDA Vario for a few months now and it's been great.

I've got a few bits of software on it including tomtom, vxutil network tools, ebook reader and I've played with some video stuff as well.

I find it solid and reliable. There seems to be a problem with the card slot that causes the slot interface to reset periodically. that can cause programs running from the card to crash, but otherwise it's fine.

I suspect that either you've got a faulty unit, or the 02 stuff is causing problems.

There hasn't been a raft of angry mini-s users on here so I'd suspect you've got a bad phone.

I've never had an XDA Mini but I am currently using (and actually typing this on) an XDA Exec. My Exec was also a bit slugish, although it never actually crashed, until I visited xdadevelopers.com and found out how to remove all the O2 crap from the machines extended ROM. Now it just flys along, and the battery life is better to boot.

It might be worth taking a look at xdadevelopers before you decide whether to keep the xda. If you are going to go back down the Sony route you might want to wait for the P990i, which is rumoured to be the answer to world hunger.

Yet another thread with someone having reliability problems with the wizard!

There appears to be a number of faulty units out there giving people quite a lot of grief, either that or the o2 software is truly terrible. There aren't many people not happy with the wizard, as a previous post mentions there isn't exactly a torrent of angry wizard users posting threads. I for one am extremely happy with the reliability of my MDA vario, which I find to be even more reliable than my old C500.

Should a thread be made sticky to stop new threads being created every time someone has a reliablility problem with the wizard???

I've had my Wizard for 4-5 months now and it has never crashed! I've had to soft reset a couple of times, and had a few battery issues (see other topics) but other than that have been incredibly impressed!

It's a shame there appear to be a few 'duff' units out there. If yours is playing up and it's clearly not to do with having loaded incompatible software (a common issue) then I'd send back and get a replacement.

The o2 stuff is pretty crap. I installed with "basic" straight away, no crashes all was fine. O2 icon annoyed me so removed connections.exe from startup and still fine. Installed GPRS monitor and it started being really slow and crashing, so uninstalled it again and its been fine since Saturday. I've only been using a short time but I love it so far, its been great.

I've got a tmobile vario, a friend has the 02 mini s.... and yes, im glad i got the vario! 02 seem to load all sorts of crap on it. after a hard reset, the 02 phone is STILL slower than my vario, after running for days with a 1GB sd - neither of us have changed our extended roms etc.

so, from what i've ready, 02 piles crap on, tmobile dont.... get a tmobile one or go rom editing.... or, this is cool

get the tmobile rom on your 02 phone!

download the software, called lokiewiz or from ebay look for 'best unlock mda vario'

then install whatever rom you like...

be warned though, i installed club imates rom, its pants compared to tmobile, it needed soft reseting each day... not something im used to with tmobile, so back i went to trusty tmobile rom ;)
