Guest shadamehr Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 I have now found out that to add new words to the Dictionary on a Pocket PC, you turn it to multi-tap, and then type it, and then this then adds it to the t9 user dictionary.. BBBBBUUUUUTTTTT.... (And that's a mighty big but) Soon as you turn of the phone (just a mere soft reboot)... and the words are lost... Is my Vario taking the sipp (oops, it seems it's forgot a word there *lol*) or what? State of the art, fifth generation pocket PC phones, with the new WM5.0, and to use t9 you have to re-type in a list of fifty or so words, every time you switch it off (which for me, is nightly, as I'm still one of that "turn it off when not wanted" brigade). It's pure shiv if so (oops, another word it seems to have forgot there *lol*). Surely not folks - and as there are gazillions of you lot with a Pocket Pc now, someone please tell me where I am going wrong. I simply cannot believe it's the way I am reading it - no way!
Guest shadamehr Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 ^ BUMP... 12 views, hundreds of users, and no answer? Come on folks... help me out!
Guest simon.sp Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Did you ever get an answer to this? If so, what was it? Mine does the same and it is driving me up the wall

Guest fraser Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 From my Smartphone days, I remember that the custom dictionary actually worked by looking at existing messages for new words. It would look thru the sent items folder, meaning you'd lose them when you cleared it out. The solution was to have a draft message with all of your custom words in it. Might be the same problem here.

Guest dr_nick Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 ok, this just simply does not work. have tried leaving a message in both "draft" and "sent items" boxes with my custom words in, but it doesn't remember them. alsom the theory is also flawed - soft resetting my m600 does not delete the messages in any of my folders, but does remove my custom dictionary. anyone know how to do this properly? dr_nick
Guest touficjohn Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Ive noticed that a few of the words Ive inputted are still there - not all mind you - after reboots, switching off, etc...

Guest richard_d Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Have you tried DictMgr (freeware)?
Guest dr_nick Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Have you tried DictMgr (freeware)? this works well, especially if you export the file every now and then, so have something to import should you have to do a hard reset (manages the soft reset ok) When I was using this solution with my E200 I remember I had to open & close the text file each time I started the phone, this would load the T9 custom word list back into the phones memory. didn't work on my m600! :)
Guest hp1 Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 For what its worth I think its related to the specific input method. I use TenGO Thumb on my M600 and it remembers all custom words. It doesnt yet remeber alpha numberic or smilies etc but I am assured its coming in the next version.
