I'm receiving a lot of strange empty SMSes

Hi all

I live in italy and my carrier is Vodafone.

I've been experiencing a strange problem with the SP5m.

The phone rings, and the caller is "Unknown", and not "Private" as it normalli displays when caller number is hidden.

When I answer there's no call actually, it is dropped instantly (if it ever existed), but I must answer or else the prhone keeps vibrating indefinitely.

And the strange part has yet to come: after this "preamble" call, every 10-15 minutes I receive spurs of 3 to 6 SMS messages all in a rush, all with "Unknown sender" and "Unable to display message content"

This continues until I power-cycle the phone...

Already tried t hard reset, and anyway my previous phone didn't suffer from this problem.

I understand that this problem is much likely a SW one and will be fixed in the next rom I hope,

But anyway I want to ask for your opinions.

I have only half of the problems.

As you I live in Italy and have Vodafone as carriere.

I don't receive the call but often I receive SMS with "Unknown sender" and "Unable to display message content", usually I receive it at phone startup and 2 or 3 sms ar receive every time.

I live in England and my carrier is Orange. I don't get the dodgy SMS but I do get the "Unknown Caller" phone calls.

I doubt it has anything to do with the phone itself though as I'm getting the same thing on my landline. Presumably it is caused by computers / faxes etc dialling wrong (or random) numbers.

Whatever, it is very annoying :evil:

Unknown Caller calls are quite normal, at least in italy, one can make a "stealth" call to a number, and the callee won't see the originating number... and usually incoming roaming calls (originated from a foreign country) don't display the caller number...

The thing that bugs me, is that the incoming number was displayed as Unknown ("Sconosciuto" in italian), instead of Private ("Privato" in italian).

@lvfranz: after your "witness" i fear that the rom upgrade will not address this problem...
