Guest pcsurgeonuk Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Hey all, Planning on upgrading my Orange c600 smartphone to the T-mobile MDA Pro when my contract runs out on the 27th. Got a couple of small Qs which I could really use answers to before I buy tho if you don't mind. Thanks for any response! 1) Is the WM5 on the MDA Pro the same as the smartphone version? There are little things that dont exist on the smartphone version which bug me because I used to have them on the PDA version, like can you choose to save emails onto the SD card? You can't on my c600 (not without a reg tweak which didnt work for me long term). 2) Im buying this MDA PRO straight from T-mobile, which new ROM would you recommend me using? 3) Are there any idiotproof guides to unlocking or modifiying your MDA PRO? 4) I have noticed on forums in general that more poeple seem to have the 02 Exec or the M5000 than the MDA pro. Why is that? Is there any major difference in S/W? Thanks for all your comments guys, Cheers, Julian
Guest Tech Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 1) this is all down to the branding and ROM software - not the OS ;) the OS is always the same - everything on top is down to the network provider software
Guest pcsurgeonuk Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Ahh Ok, so can you save off your emails onto the storage card? I cant find any review of the specific s/w that comes with the MDA pro or any universal for that matter. Doesnt matter to much but would like to know I can store my emails and others bits and peices onto a storage card instead of my far to small RAM. Julian

You can't store your email (without a tweak) on the SD card, but you can store attachments there with an option the PocketOutlook settings. 2) Im buying this MDA PRO straight from T-mobile, which new ROM would you recommend me using?I'm happy with the i-Mate ROM (however i do have a Jasjar!), tmob's ROM images are usually quite well put together and they are pretty hot on releasing updates. Having said that theres no AKU2 for the MDA Pro, yet... 3) Are there any idiotproof guides to unlocking or modifiying your MDA PRO? Unlocking - IMEI check or tmob directly. Modding - how specifically? 4) I have noticed on forums in general that more poeple seem to have the 02 Exec or the M5000 than the MDA pro. Why is that? Is there any major difference in S/W?Software - Not really, bar the odd Tmob today plugin (just a bunch of shortcuts i believe...) Why aren't there many Tmob customers? This forum has always been fairly Orange heavy (cos they released the original SPV!) and O2 were doing some pretty good deals. If you wander over the the Wizard forum you'll find plenty of Tmob Vario customers! Thanks for all your comments guys, Cheers, Julian
Guest pcsurgeonuk Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Hey, thanks for the replys! You can't store your email (without a tweak) on the SD card, but you can store attachments there with an option the PocketOutlook settings. Thats strange, on my dell axim 50v you could without a tweak. Do you know of any other mail applications that can use outlook mails but organise them better?? I have hundreds of work emails and unless I store them on a SD card I simply can't have them on my phone. I'm happy with the i-Mate ROM (however i do have a Jasjar!), tmob's ROM images are usually quite well put together and they are pretty hot on releasing updates. Having said that theres no AKU2 for the MDA Pro, yet...What is AKU2? Any major advantages to upgrading the rom from the basic t-mobile one? Unlocking - IMEI check or tmob directly. Modding - how specifically? I am not to bothered about unlocking, certainly don't want to pay for it. Just on the off chance I need to use my girlfriends sim. And to possibably raise the phones value incase I should decide to sell it. Did it for free using Modaco s/w on my C600, was interested incase simular process for the MDA-pro Software - Not really, bar the odd Tmob today plugin (just a bunch of shortcuts i believe...) Why aren't there many Tmob customers? This forum has always been fairly Orange heavy (cos they released the original SPV!) and O2 were doing some pretty good deals. If you wander over the the Wizard forum you'll find plenty of Tmob Vario customers! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ahh ok, that makes sense. Glad to hear it, want MDA-Pro as I like the U-fix contracts. Felt uneasy about going for that tho as not many people seem to have them on this forum. Thanks for your help Monolithix! Good to get some answers before wandering into buyin such an expensive phone. Cheers, Julian
Guest Confucious Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Before you buy - T-Mob are, it is rumoured, going to slash the price of data access on 1/4/06 £7.50 fixed rate! Data access can be expensive and the 40Mb cap oin Web & Walk is not enough. This new price should ensure we see a LOT more MDA Pros! There is no free s/ware to unlock the pro at the moment but t-mob do it for £15, I'm sure given time..... AKU2 is the MSFP (Mesaging and security feature pack) which will allow push email if you have Exchange server 2003 SP2. HTH
Guest pcsurgeonuk Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 hmm, may wait to see what happens on the 1st in that case. Reakon there is any chance that they may lower the MDA Pros price along with this new tariff? Cheers, Julian
Guest Confucious Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 (edited) I have no idea (I doubt it) but we'll have to wait and see... Edited March 16, 2006 by Confucious
Guest pcsurgeonuk Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Thanks for all your replys, decided to go for a MDA Pro on the flext tarrif. Thinking of gettin a silicon case for it, anyone else got or tryed one of these? Have to import it to get one as no suppliers in UK but looks very nice. Good way of covering up the stupid pink T on the front! Also looking for a holster, some expensive ones on expansys and a couple of random ones in other places. Anyone got any recommendations of decent holsters? By holster I mean a case you take the MDA pro out of to use and it stays on your belt. Last of all i am also looking for a decent bluetooth headset as im to vain to hold the mda pro up to my ear... has anyone got recomendations or possibly a review site of top10 headsets? Couldnt find any on google. Cheers, Julian
