Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Are these two phones the same just with slightly different design for the phone's casing?
Guest Pondrew Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Nope. The SPV M600 is made by HTC and is more commonly known as the HTC Prophet while the Atom is made by a company called Quanta. The Atom spec is as follows: Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition CPU Intel PX272 Speed 416 MHz RAM 64MB ROM 128MB 2 megapixel camera The Prophet spec: Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition CPU TI OMAP 850 processor Speed 200 MHz RAM 64MB ROM 128MB 2 megapixel camera Both have built in wifi and Quad band. So, very similar BUT most reports I've heard of the Atom have been negative while most reports of the HTC Prophet have been extremely positive. It should also be said that HTC have been producing Pocket PC Phones for years where Quanta are the new kids on the block. Make your own conclusions on that...
Guest Pondrew Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Oh, forgot one thing the Atom spec has which the Prophet doesn't. The Atom has built in stereo speakers (although reports are the speakers output isn't very good with poor bass).
Guest kl1wdr Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 [..] Both have built in wifi and Quad band. Make your own conclusions on that... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, but you must be joking. The O2 Atom is BY FAR the best PocketPC Phone Edition Device I have ever had! And believe me, I had many... I have never had my hands on a device that small and stable as the Atom. Furthermore it offers a whole bunch of nice applications which come with the device. What about the FM-Tuner you forgot to mention? And the fact that one can speed up the CPU up to 624 MHz (within the specs...you can go even higher!) and the built-in "Media Center Look-alike? Ok, I have to admit that the Prophet-Camera is much better but that's about it when you ask me... If I will ever get a PPCPE-Device then it will certainly be an Atom or one of its successors.
Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks for clearing that up guys. Didn't realise the difference. How comes there's such a huge difference in speed. Surely the Atom is superior in performance terms? No? As for the camera, I've read that there's an update that speeds up the Atom's camera and automatically switches it to landscape mode. Not sure on the details, but I know for sure there's an update for the camera. @kl1wdr: Where did you get the Atom from? It's not available from O2 UK yet and no news of an actual release date. ;) Expansys don't stock it anymore either.
Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Hmmm, just read this on http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4436.html built-in FM Radio built-in Wi-Fi (unknown whether also 802.11g or only 802.11b) powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 processor: 416 MHz display: QVGA (240x320 pixels), 65k colors camera: 2 megapixel with Flash form factor: Similar size as Magician but Slimmer. cellular networks support: EDGE, GPRS, GSM ROM and RAM: still no information available So the HTC prophet has similar speed and also FM radio. :??:
Guest Pondrew Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 kl1wdr is right, the fm radio is another impressive addition to the Atom's spec sheet. And he seems to be pleased with his (although I don't quite understand why he says he would get one if he already has one...?). @kl1wdr, how do you mean you can speed up the cpu within the specs? It has overclocker software built in? Or are you just referring to optional software like XScaler? If so then it's only fair to mention that OMAP Clock is also available to overclock the Prophets processor... As for performance, your guess is as good as mine. I do know that the Prophet's OMAP 850 processor overclocked to 245MHz outperforms an Intel Xscale processor at 416MHz (having done some benchmarking myself) BUT the Atom would almost certainly have the advantage at normal clock speed. Finally, @Joejoethejoey, that info from Msmobiles.com is almost entirely wrong. There is no fm radio in the Prophet, it's not thinner then the HTC Magician, the camera doesn't have a flash, and it doesn't have a processor at 416MHz. In fact, I suspect the specs were those of the Atom wrongly attributed to the Prophet (which at that time was little more then a rumour).
