Orange SPV M600 hit the shelves?

Can anyone explain that Orange's online shop shows certain handsets in stock (for new customers), yet when you go to the upgrade section of the site, either the handset isn't there at all, or more likely, it's available, but just out of stock (and remains out of stock for weeks, whilst new customers get the handset the next day).

It's down to the way they associate mobile numbers with handsets. If you look at the side of the box of an upgrade handset, it says on the sticker 'upgrade handset' and has the IMEI and no mobile number associated with the sim in the box so it's easier to keep the existing number by doing a sim swap.

New handsets have 'mobile number 07XXX XXXXXX' on a sticker on the side, and they don't issue these as upgrades as the bundled sim already has a mobile number meaning keeping the existing number is a lot of paperwork, so there are genuinely differences in the packages for new and upgrade stock meaning different stock groups for new and upgrade customers.

Dunno why they do it like this, but they do....would simplfy it if they sent all sims seperatley!!!

Its also down to network churn rates - especially with premium phones. There are more potential customers currently not on orange contract who want the handsets than there are exsitign orange customers (due an upgrade at that moment in time).

Thus they think it make sense to provide new customers (from other networks) with the fancy new handsets...

That seems about right to me. This article has even been taken off the portal news. So must be wrong. Whoever your sources are I'd change them.

Hey everyone. Nice board. Think it's time I got a proper phone. I was thinking about getting an m1500 (basically because on my contract I can't afford anything higher), but with the m600 is it likely that some of the prices will drop? Particularly the m1500 as it's stuck on WM 2003. Is this likely to happen or shall I just buy now?

Can anyone who has the M600 for review at the moment comment on its performance? I just wondered if the 200Mhz CPU performed acceptably. Anyone tried playing wmv or divx on it?

Cheers

I just went into the Orange shop on The Strand and asked a very bored looking guy, slumped over the cash till, if he had a release date for the M600.  His response, 'I ain't even heard of it'.

Thanks very much.  Orange customer service 10/10.

An uninterested Phone Trainer?! Well I never!

Well considering you're not rewarded or encouraged for having specialist knowledge at Orange, the 'Phone Trainer' title is becoming tired as they employ more and more bored and untrained sales drones.

May as well go to Tmobile, they may be salespeople, but they take an interest in your needs.

As for the release of the M600, my best mate (a Phone Trainer, lol) has no idea either - he says the WeeklyTradingFocus keeps saying 'by the end of the month' - Wouldn't recommend holding your breath ;)

 sigh...sigh...sigh! De'ja vu anyone? I've read through most of this post and it seems just like the M500 saga! :?:

My M500 is playing up at the moment. Orange Technical supposed to try and sort it tomorrow. If they can't, maybe I can get a 600 in exchange? Then again why would they do that.

Going to wait for the HTC Hermes to come out.(Orange may call this the M6000, MDA Vario II on T-Mobile in Germany, due very soon)

Just Spoke to Orange Sales who told me that the SPV M600 has been release. Regarding prices I was told that on a £20 per month plan the phone will cost £179 and on a £30 per month plan the phone will cost £99

I still think that is a lot of money. I was also told last week that there will be new plans that come out at the start of April.

Personally I think I will wait, sell my Qtek s100 with my Sandisk 256mb Wifi card on ebay. With the money I receive I will get the SPV M600 from someone who has just done an upgrade and wants to sell it on ebay.

The current M500, which has been around for ages, lacks WiFi and isn't WM5 is £79.99 on all 1 year plans it seems (drops to £29.99 for 2 year plans).

The age old M1500 is still £99 on 12 month plans! (£50 on 2 year)

As for the M2000 (with WiFi) - that's still £199 on 12 month plans and £149 on 2 year plans!!!

Considering the M600 is brand new and has WiFi, I'd imagine Orange would charge a premium for it - so £99 on a £30 per month plan sounds fair. The Vario used to be £60/£70 on a 18 month, £30 per month plan.

I have been calling the Guildford (Friary) Orange shop for a few days now and yesterday they got one in! I have it! Thanks Scott.

I have a business plan where I have the lead handset and we spend approx. £1,000 per month - my M600 was free ;)
