Guest Metabolife Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 (edited) So I decided to finally try out some other roms besides the Cingular 1.43 rom that had come with my phone. The Cing 1.43 works well enough, but the camera is flakey at times. I was also unimpressed with the ringtone loudness when using mp3s (loudness can be adjusted using an application, but testing default). I took one mp3 song and played it across three roms to test loudness (volume max), I also took a similar picture on each rom to test photo quality. The roms tested are: -Cingular 1.43 -Generic 1.49 -Asian 3.51 -Cingular: The phone start menu was slightly slower than the other two roms and the photo quality was much worse. The mp3 tone was also not as loud as the other two roms. This rom had the longest boot time of the roms tested also. -Generic: Camera quality was the sharpest of the roms tested. None of the roms completely removed the softness, but this one did the best. Also had the most correct color. The mp3 ringtone was slightly louder than the cingular rom, but not much so. The in-call volume in particular was louder than the other two roms. And the boot time was the fastest. -Asian: Had the second best camera, sharpness similar to the cingular, but color accuracy between the cingular and generic. The mp3 ringtone on par in loudness with the generic, but the in-call volume was lower and less clear. The boot time was in between the generic and the cingular. It was also annoying having to remove the go tone icons and the asian region settings. Also noticed an emergency number contact added to the conacts list which returned even after being deleted (slight annoyance). The font size is also slightly smaller than the other two roms (preference really, but I prefer the larger, makes the home screen easier to read). It comes with media player 10 which is slightly better than mp9 on the other two roms (I use tcmp, so no advantage for me). The ext LCD was off by default, I prefer it this way, but nothing a simple registry entry can't change. To conclude, I found the generic rom to be the best of the ones tested IMHO. It is quick and has been stable. It is also easier to get working than the asian rom, and doesn't have the annoying cingular/go tone logo. Depending on your preferences, none of these roms are "bad", they just do things differently. Edited March 17, 2006 by Metabolife

Incorrect java support, Incorrect interpreter for commands (non working restart device), unstable with card more than 1gb...
Guest imisim Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 -Generic 1.49To conclude, I found the generic rom to be the best of the ones tested IMHO. If you want to soft reset your phone using programs such as, quickreset, rebootphone, autoflight (to automatically softreset your phone while you are sleeping), generic 1.49 won't work. You will have to remove/insert the battery to get the phone to work again. Asian: Also noticed an emergency number contact added to the conacts list which returned even after being deleted (slight annoyance). The font size ... All of those thing can be fixed easily by editing the registry.

Guest Metabolife Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 What application are you talking about?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Before you put the mp3s on the phone, an application like audacity and goldwave can boost the volume. They can also take out the low end and higher end to save space since the phone speaker can't reproduce them.

I tried Asian 3.51 and 3.53 and both of them failed to read more than 1 GB on my 2 GB Sandisk Edited March 24, 2006 by Klæl
