Updating a c600 with the latest orange rom, and in the bootloader the versions state *Tornado IPL 2.00, Tornado SPL 2.0.0006* so might be a daft question but why does it get refered to as Faraday?....

A intelligent GUESS, nothing more, but maybe this is it:

The C600 IS a Faraday (fact) - that being the HTC name of this particular device, akin to the Tornado, but with the Wi-fi module removed/not there, HARDWARE-WISE.

BUT...

Software-wise, it is quite possible that there is no seperate dedicated ROM for this device, with the wi-fi removed, as it maybe just isn't available in the menus, on a Faraday device, and thus no need to write a specific ROM.

SO...

Your Faraday (no wi-fi in hardware) device, is listed as a Tornado in software, as the ROM and thus software on it, is the same one used on a REAL Tornado device.

Just a guess, but maybe makes sense?

Exactly. Faraday can perfectly run Tornado OS, due to differences being small (only removed WiFi module).

So they dont build separate firmware to save some time. Granted, they could've put subplatform detection into splash screen, but most probably decided "why care?" ;)

I was after a bit more than 'I think' or 'It's fact' with no sources to backup :-(

My reasoning being that many different sites 'name' the devices with no real evidence of their official names...

eg: http://www.htcclub.net/en/smart_phones_2.php

has

Sonata = 8200 / SDA Music

Hurricane = c550 / SP4m / 586 / 566

Blizzard = sp5m / 8300

Tornado = sp5 / 8310 / c600

to list just one site of many that don't quote any source than, er, other 'fan' sites

( just like this one does) with taglines to other sites for the info....

...and doing IMEI / seriel analysis of my qtek v1240, imate sp5m, orange c600, and the seriels on the FCC site for the reference designs NM8TND and NM8TNDF is very interesting, but I need a seriel of a C2125 for more info. The IMEI ranges are applied to certain model types related to FCC / type approval registration. I'm curious to see where a 2125 fits, because the c600 sits in the tornado range...not in the NM8TNDF range.

EDIT: I'll be posting stripdown guides for the c600 and sp5m anytime now. Looks dead easy to solder the wireless chip into the c600's board... :shock: (JOKE!!..)
