Orange Signal Strength on C500

I have had a C500 for 18 months on Orange and the signal has been dreadful!

The cell handover when moving is also poor. I am in an area where the ORange map says I should have high quality calls, but even in the centre of London, in a glass building, the signal strength is awful.

I have noticed that the signal strength can fluctuate from no signal to full signal if I move a matter of inches - even when outside with no architectural influences.

My question is: is there a fix for this problem on the C500; is this just Orange being crap on any plaform; or is this a Windows Mobile problem?

I am wanting to take the Orange SingleNumber option (where I can have a duplicated SIM as a secondary device for the carphone), but Vodafone don't offer such a slick service (you have to enter a code into the phone every time you switch devices), and O2 say that they have no plans to introduce this kind of service.

I am loathed to go with Orange under contract if their service quality is really as bad as my C500 experience has led me to believe.

Any advice greatfully received.

Sounds more like you have a problem with the actual phone rather the C500 in general. It's a bit late now but you could have asked for a replacement as you may have a defective unit.

The C500 is not as good as say a nokia for signal strength but I have never encountered any real issues. I live in a area that has good coverage but because I live in a slight dip I get poor reception downstairs on any phone.

Have you tried updating your ROM with the latest Orange version?

My wife and I both have the C500, mine is on the latest minus one version of the ROM. Her phone also suffers poor signal / holding of signal.

I was loathed to update the ROM because last time I lost EVERYTHING I had configured. Is there now a tool to backup info, and I'll try an update?

Just want to add that i have had my c500 for about 5 months and i am down on the south coast and the signal i get here on the c500 is awful 2,when compared to another very cheap seimans fone i have here which is on orange it puts the c500 to shame,i think it must be the c500 as have had reports from a friend who has one too. :roll:
