...of the car window at high speed!

My SPV M500 is pissing about again.

After much pain I finally got the latest TomTom software & have installed it. I gave it a quick tiral that afternoon & all seemed well but I was off to Nottingham yesterday & thought I'd give it a proper test to see if it'd still crash.

Now all its bloody doing is saying 'Turn off Flight mode' when ever I open TomTom or try to enable the bluetooth. I have turned Flight mode on, off, in & out but it just keeps coming up with the same old error message.

I have full signal & have the G to show GPRS is it?? Anyway thats up too.

I have cleared the memory off anything that was running & still no joy.

I have done a 'Soft' reset with no luck & am about to attempt a 'Hard' reset.

I had to even buy a bloomin map because of this bloomin box of usless crap. I'm not a very happy bunny as all the reports I read said it was the best thing since sliced bread & I'm afriad that just isn't true.

IF this does on much longer I can see this bloody phone ending up at the bottom of a lake & I'll go & get the Nokia 6111 that I was planning, a nice simple box that you can make calls on & stick to a map.

If you are reading this & thinking of getting a M500, I seriously ask you to think again. I am not recomending this phone to anyone unless they are prepared to have it laying on the back seat of your car most of the time due to the frustration it'll cause you.

Are you using PPC Profiles Pro? I had the exact same problem with it installed using ALK CoPilot 5.....after I uninstalled PPC Profiles Pro and switched to another Profiles program the problems cleared.

erm I have no idea mate, you'll have to talk me through where I'd find it so I can nuke it.

I did a full hardware reset on the phone & lent it to my old man just in case I threw it somewhere I regretted later (there are alot of rivers around here) and I have just heared back that it was STILL coming up with "Turn off Flight mode". I've yet to hear the whole story this time tho.

Yeh so if you could just talk me through how/where to find it that would be very useful cheers.

If you did a Hard Reset you would have had to CHOOSE to re-install PPC Profiles Pro, so if you don't know you probably dont have it.

Does the Flight Mode message come up in anything else?

Can you make calls out? (I'm assuming yes, as the GPRS indicator would go off too if you were actually in flight mode)

Try putting flight mode ON, switching off, switching on, flight mode OFF

Right first off I'd like to thank you for your help so far.

I have not found anything else which complains about it, other than Tomtom & I think that is due to the bluetooth because if I enable that withou starting Tomtom I brings the error up.

Yup I have full signal & am able to make & recivie calls.

I have done what you have suggested. I turned on flight mode, took the battery out & rebooted then turned flight mode off, after a while it found some signal so I have turned the bluetooth on, it so far hasn't brought the error up.

So things are looking good.

Do you know if this is a permanent fix or will I have to do this every so often?

Would leaving the bluetooth on 24/7 stop the error?

I have the phone chraging / backing up in my PC, the trouble is it has no signal in my office where its plugged in, I wonder if this doesn't help as sometimes it takes ages before it finds a signal if left overnight. Sometimes I have to turn it off & back on again to get it to re-register with the network

I had something similar once and a soft reset fixed it. It's as if there is an internal flag storing the flight-mode state and this flag was set wrong. The program would ask if flight mode was on, and the phone would incorrectly say it was. At least, this is what I assumed was going on, don't take it as gospel.

BUT: If you don't find that it works, then please feel free to chuck it in a large jiffy bag with my address on it. I'll even pay you for the stamp.

I would do mate but I have this thing on a 2 year contract

Right quick update, all seems well *touch wood* I gave it to my father today & told him to abuse the tomtom, being a delivery driver n all lol. 1 hour after he leaves I get a phone call to say it still isn't working.

When he got back I had a quick look & remembered that I hadn't assigned the GPS to a comport under the bluetooth settings, that done tomtom is working again.

I have given it to him again for another days abuse tomorrow.

I'll report back.

sorry to ask a (perhaps) daft question...

is your TomTom legit?

not casting any aspersions but if you are having this much trouble with a new(ish) device and purchased software, then shurely shome form of warranty is available to you... 8-[

It's working? ;) No free Universal for me then ;)

Mind you good news, as I'm almost certainly going to buy one, and I wanted Tom Tom too, so at least I know what to look out for. Good luck mate.
