Hello

Is there anyway I can backup my SMS messages without investing in 3rd party software?

I want to install the AKU2 upgrade for my I-mate SP5 but need to backup all my SMS first.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply!

I found and tried SP Studio, good piece of software but it doesn't get the messages from my device (works with the contacts though) so I guess might be incompatible with WM5.

Any more ideas welcome.

Found this app called Personal Mobile Vault. An over the air storage service that provides a backup for contacts, sms and photos. Works with WM5.

Hope this helps.

If you turn on SIM PIN lock, you won't have a time restriction to copy + paste cemail.vol to your PC, just turn on the phone while connected to your PC (with ActiveSync installed), when it prompts you to enter your PIN, don't do anything with the phone, go to your PC and copy and paste that file.

I was able to copy cemail.vol to my PC that way, but I've not done the AKU2 upgrade YET, so I don't know if the restore process will work. I would suggest a SECOND backup using 3rd party software BEFORE doing the upgrade. If just copying cemail.vol back to the phone works, then you save yourself the hassle of restoring using 3rd party software, but if it doesn't work, you'll still have a SECOND backup process from 3rd party software.
