Guest pcsurgeonuk Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Hey all, Been looking at T-mobile phones as can get a new one on my contract next week. Decided on the MDA Pro but I am struggling to see why anyone wouldnt pick that phone. Can't find anyone saying bad things about from it apart from its size. Which is a PDAs size, resonable I think. Probably would invest in a BT headset for long calls however. So tell me why not to get this phone. It does everything and is twice as powerfull as any other phone on the market. Big screen, perfect for tomtom (which is not the rubish mobile version). 512 mhz proccessor, full keyboard, wifi, looks cool. Why settle for something less powerfull over the fact that its a big phone? They all used to be much bigger than that and did a fraction of what the MDA pro can do. Julian
Guest Samsonite Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 just to play devils advocate.. 3G? hmmmm not just yet methinks... I know it'll use GSM when required but it's still it too hit and miss for me.. I understand your point about the size not being excessive in relation to a PDA but i have some concerns about the mechanically complictaed screen swivel... Is that gonna last a year or more? i know its a popular device but these are two points that put enough doubt into me to just wait a bit and see what comes in the next wave of toys!

It does come with a warrenty however, would see it start to go before a year is up and so could act. Who knows with this however, it hasnt been available for that long so far so it could cause a problem. True of any phone after a years useage tho, you never know how it will hold up. Don't see many complaints on forums about the hinge tho. 3G doesnt really bother me as I am tight fisted over payin for mbs. Would only use wifi spots. @ Chucky - Yes I went into the shops the other day and had a good look at it in person. It is big but considering other phones with similar technology (p910 for example) it isn't that big a leap. its the same length, wider obviously tho but not massivly big. I was expecting a real monster after reading many reviews on the web. I think its been hyped up however since it is probably the biggest phone of this generation. For a phone that is basically a laptop, I think it is more than acceptable. I tried the balancing thing when I got the c600 about 2 months ago. Massive jump from my trusty samsung d500 to the orange c600 but it still left me wanting more. I can't think of anything else they could pack into the mda pro so hopefully it should meet my needs. Heres a Q for any MDA Pro users out there. One thing that puts me off it looks wise is that big pink T on the front. It spoils its looks for me, anyone managed to scrape (for want of a better word) it off the case? Or am I the only one who doesnt want a big pink letter is a bit... well... rubish.

Guest Pigo Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 I would say.... be on the lookout for the MDA Vario 2 supposed to be 3G. qwerty keyboard. well... same as vario but faster and with 3G and 2 camera's for video calling. Pigo

MDA Vario 2 is interesting, just been lookin over some pictures online. Its only 300mhz which is disapointing. Also it doesnt have SD card slot. Another problem is that you can't protect the screen. Didnt care when using my d500, let it pick up tons of scratches (absolutly tons of them) but with a touchscreen I want it better protected. Do you mda vario users find that a problem at the moment? Julian
Guest Pigo Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 i'm just extremely carefull with it. i read that the vario 2 has a 416mhz processor. also read it had mini-sd slot... would be vey weird if it didn't have a memory card slot. sugar cube trick is when you take a sugar cube and gently rub it over the logo's untill they start to fade away and disapear. do a search here for better explanation. pigo

Is that gonna last a year or more? Thats bang on right. Devices with swivels and flips never last. Every single phone my sister has purchased has broke. Why? Because they are flip and slides. This is whats put me right off the vario. I dont wanna be messing about sending phones back and paying for repairs.
Guest fraser Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Agreed, moving parts will pack up first. However, I have to say that I'm impressed with my Blue Angel. The keyboard slide is still in perfect condition 12 months later, despite heavy use.
Guest Pigo Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I do have to say.... I've been using my vario for 4 months now and I have been using it heavily. and not 1 problem or change in the keyboard slide mechanism. Very satisfied with Wizard Pigo
