Guest mcMike Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 Hello folks, There still seems to be zillions of ppl not getting 3RD-party BT GPS to work with TomTom 5.2 and WM5-phone. I searched and searched the forums until accidentally found the solution. To save time from others: YOU NEED TO RENAME THE BT-DEVICE as GPS. I did do quite a lot of other tweakings also but that seemed to be the lightbulp. If that does not work for you plase let me know and I can descripe little more what I did. (I assume that you have already bonded the device and assigned outgoing serial6 to it also). sticky... eh?

Guest nastassja Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 (edited) you have to rename it to BT-GPS *edit* and then in tomtom chose "other bluetooth gps" or whatever *edit* Edited March 24, 2006 by nastassja

Guest mcMike Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 you have to rename it to BT-GPS *edit* and then in tomtom chose "other bluetooth gps" or whatever *edit* <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, for me only plain "GPS" was enaugh. However there seems to be some issues in TomTom though. I had it crashed few times on the same geographic place so maybe it has something to do with the GPS-signals in that area?!? After crash if I restart TomTom it may or may not found GPS no matter how I toggle BT on/off. After Phoneboot it usually works again. There is alternative way to trigger TomTom to regognize BT-GPS if everything else fails. Just follow the initial guide and pair BT GPS and set outgoing port to 6. Then start GPSDash2 (shareware, google) and config it to look GPS from port 6, boudrate don't matter. It usually finds the GPS immediately. Launch TomTom, go to GPS-settings, select "other gps", ok. It won't find the GPS yet. Switch back to GPSDash and close. Switch back to TomTom and wait a bit. It _may_ find the gps no matter how it's named. I tested that few times and was able to connect TomTom to GPS with that method untill I found the naming tip.
