Guest klaustus Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 (edited) Hi there, Can anyone offer me some advice, im looking to get either a htc wizard or a magician (or a prophet depending on whether orange start stocking them - any ideas?), but my main computer is a mac. does anyone else use this setup, using something like 'pocketmac' or 'the missing synch' or is it an all round bad idea? cheers, klaustus Edited March 30, 2006 by klaustus
Guest Alsicole Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 I'm about to get a Mac so I've been looking into this. Pocket Mac and Missing Sync are compatible with Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003, so you'd be fine with a Magician running that OS. Both companies are working on updates for Windows Mobile 5.0 compatibility, so a Wizard wouldn't be able to sync with a Mac at present. Hope this helps.
Guest furby Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 (edited) I have missing sync for my mac and a SPV M500 (I'm so confused with all the names, so whatever else it's called...) Some minor setup problems that were quickly solved by the missing sync people and I would have to say it all works pretty well. Can sync over wifi, bluetooth and usb. Not really tried the wifi, but the other 2 work well. Syncs with the osx apps, Address Book and iCal and also (Microsoft)Entourage. It intergrates into Itunes which is quite nifty, but is not a feature I use. Only slight negative is the file transfer indicator, it is impossible to tell how long a file is going to take. Haven't really fiddled with passthrough but it didn't work just now. It's just as good and easier in someways to use than Activesync but then you do have to pay Not sure what else you'd want to know so just ask ;) Edited March 25, 2006 by furby
Guest gibster Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 i have an m500 and a powerbook running PocketMac. It works a treat. The only real annoyance, if you can call it that, is when you sync the pc and the mac together for the first time (ie after you do a hard reset on the pc) all the contacts are sorted by last, first name. i've a feeling this is more to do with entourage (mac version of outlook). otherwise, it's great. there is even a feature that will allow to install software in .exe or .cab formats direct from the mac. i also managed to get the mac using the mobile modem via blutooth, which works great!
Guest klaustus Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 cheers for the responses, now i know that there are useable solutions out there im happier to part with my cash for a ppc and know that it isnt going to be totally useless with my mac. a longshot i know but has anyone out there used both of them and can offer a comparison/recommendation? got to wait til the end of next month before i get my new contract so i can afford to wait for mac-sync based advice! klaustus
Guest klaustus Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 ok, so im happy with my compatibility issues so far so i thought id make it even more difficult! so has anyone had any experience with using copilot? on t-mobile i can get it with an mda compact II pretty cheap so i was tempted, until i read on the alk website about installation needing a pc to install which got me worried. not limiting this to mac owners this time - can anyone who has bought a t-mobile ppc with copilot let me know if you need to do anything to get/keep it running that i might not be able to do with a mac. cheers again klaustus
