Guest craig_b Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Ive just been on the phone to Orange UK Customer services. I wanted to find out about the EDGE network & what i got to do to make it work on my phone. She said that the EDGE network is still in trial and that you should automatically switch between GPRS & edge if your in a good signal area. OK fair enough Then she said that my phone was not EDGE compatible? eh? I thought the C600 was edge compatible? All i wanna do is to be able to get the little e on my display! Can anyone verify this please?
Guest Xenzo1990 Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 I was also under the impression the c600 was and still is EDGE compatible. Again, it could be likely Orange CS screwed up again. :S Dont orange inform their CS of any changes?
Guest StiflingCobra Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Had my G change to an E the other night on my C600 for about 6 hours. Was back to G though the next morning and hasn't changed since. So it does pick up Edge....
Guest jporch316 Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I drive a lot for work and have a c600 - on a recent (last thurs) trip to South Brent (just past Exeter just before plymouth - i got the E instead of the G just as i was coming to the end of the M5 and it stayed all day while in South Brent. I had a bash at IE and the pages loaded a lot quicker than standard Gprs. So - yes the c600 is def compatible with edge and yes its is a lot quicker And we'll probably get it in wales in 2010

Guest GrahamMW Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 (edited) Edge is showing up on my C600 on the lastest rom at home in Hertfordshire, but not at work in London. Edited March 29, 2006 by GrahamMW
Guest ee61re Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 I was in central London over the weekend, and I got the E appear on my C600, and I tried syncing Avango using it. Worked no problem, didn't seem any faster than GPRS though.
Guest jimbouk Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Orange are basically filling in EDGE where their 3g network is weak/non-existent first. This was they can shout about their national hi-speed data coverage. Hence the edge coverage in some weird and wonderful places.
Guest cerij Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 Nip up to Ferndale. EDGE there.... EDGE in Ferndale - I don't believe it - they don't even have Freeview...
Guest SpDamage Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Guys! EDGE is basically GPRS enhanced data transfer rate. Speaking about technology & equipment: 1. EDGE has almost nothing in common with 3G. EDGE is a local (i mean BTS) enhancement, which provides better and higher rate encoding (BTS level) and actually decoding (your POWERphones) schemes rate. 3G is more likely to overall network upgraded architecture. 2. Our ukrainian national gsm operators also make customers think EDGE is in trial only. But in fact it is trully very well working in large cities (actually in the capital - Kiev, i'm living in). I wouldn't say that E instead of G really means smth. It probably shows only operator's equipment signature as well as you all know cell broadcast. I haven't ever seen the "E" you are all talking about. But I'm experiencing 30-35 kb/sec download speed everyday and frankly speaking pretty satisfied with that (because of unlimited tariffplan ;))). I would only believe in edge in particular place after connecting it to a pc as a modem and watching the transfer rate: GPRS will never technically show more than 10 kb/sec, if more, believe me EDGE is under your reign... hehe PS sorry for my English if it is not so good :P russian is my native one.
