Guest Brcobrem Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Hi, On the Cingular 2125, when at the "Home" Desktop, in the blue bar at the top of the screen, there are two places that I can see white box with a blue "E" in it. One "E" is about 1/8'" (~3mm) square and is in the center of the bar. The other "E" is about half that size and is in between the battery level and the signal strength indicators. Any ideas what these "E"s are signify? Why are there two "E"'s ? Page 8 of the manual says the area where I am seeing the big E is "10. Displays the GPRS or GSM network status." This is a little confusing as I understand that GPRS is just a subset of GSM, like Edge is a subset of GSM as well. Their picture in the manual is showing a "G" in the center area that I see the larger "E". In the area that I see the smaller "E", they have no symbols between the signal and the battery strength indicators. I look forward to your reply. . . Thanks, Brcobrem P.S. Imho, the 148 page manual that came on the CD for this phone did not do a very good job describing the "Home Screen" screen layout of this phone. Hence, all the newbie questions. Sorry and thanks for your patience.
Guest www.dark-e.com Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 It means you are using Edge, which is faster then GPRS
Guest oturn Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Quite simply, the big E means the faster Edge data service is available. The big G means the standard GPRS data service is available. The smaller versions mean your phone has an activated data connection. If the data connection has been activated, it either means an application is actively sending and receiving data, or that an application has recently sent or received data. The small version will eventually time out and go away until another application activates the connection. If the small version is present but nothing is sending or receiving, it's nothing to worry about since your phone isn't using the connection or draining the battery.
