Guest mantrac Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Okay, I'm getting slightly frustrated with IA Album and Handango... After patiently waiting to see what everyone's saying about this app, I decided to buy it for my SPV. So I give my card details etc. and get transferred to the download page... I download the app and install it on my Desktop PC. I put the SPV on the cradle and run ActiveSync to install it on my phone but to my surprise, the error message I receive is that this application is not designed for my device!!! After looking through settings, deleting partnerships and almost reformatting my phone, I realise that the app I've downloaded is the PocketPC version!!! I contacted Handango immediately and they replied (2 days later) with a file attachment... It had the same exact file... I have checked the order a million times and it was placed through the Orange-Cobrand microsite (which doesn't even have the PocketPC version!!). Before replying back to Handango with "decorative" words in my e-mail, I wanted to ask if anyone else has had this problem... The file I have downloaded is named IAAlbum23EN.zip Is that the right filename? If not, what IS the correct filename?? Perhaps I could e-mail them and tell them that this is what I need...
Guest Buzz Lightyear Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 When I ordered on Sunday I got a file called iaa4sp16en.zip, and it went straight on the phone. BUZZ
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Yep, that file you downloaded is definitely the Pocket PC version... P
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Hey mantrac :!: Would you send me over a copy of that file then...it'll work just fine on my PocketPC
Guest mantrac Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Okay, Handango have sorted this out now... But thanks for your help anyway people! Ta
Guest mantrac Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Hey mantrac :!: Would you send me over a copy of that file then...it'll work just fine on my PocketPC  Sorry fella... It's too big to e-mail (2.7 meg) and besides, I don't think Handango or MoDaCo would be very pleased with that...
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 LOL ;) ....but you know...reading all these forums, I *NEVER* got the impression that the site is visited by too many people that worry about *RULES* and what people like Handango and the like think :!: It would be too big to email though...thanks anyway
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 The people that matter worry about *RULES* cepheus1, that's all you need to know ;) P
Guest smokedog Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 mantrac I'll email you my copy, when i get home work tonight.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Smokedog, you read the rest of the thread right? This is your first and only yellow card pre-warning (piracy)... P
Guest cepheus1 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Now that's interesting isn't it? Obviously Smokedog hadn't read the part where mantrac said that Handango had sorted out the problem, but I *thought* that what Smokedog was offering was to donate his own *purchased* copy of the software to mantrac out of the kindness of his heart - probably because he had no need for it anymore having got sick of his SPV and sent the phone back :!: Piracy :?: Man, I've lived a sheltered life
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Hmmmmmmmmmmm............... P
Guest MECX Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Now that's interesting isn't it? Guest mantrac Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 mantrac I'll email you... Thanks Smokedog and everyone for your help. The problem is sorted out by Handango now so I can finally snap away... (if only I can get all that sand out of my phone's serial port) I'm sure that everyone's offerings in this forum are purely out of good will and just as I'd offer my help to someone who's stuck with a problem, I can appreciate how others (i.e. Smokedog) are willing to help too. I don't think anyone intentionally wants to harm developers by distributing software and besides, I have purchased the copy of IA Album just as Smokedog has. So let's all shake hands and get on with nagging Orange about that darn app signing!!! Cheers everybody!

All good intentions aside at the end of the day we cannot be seen encourage piracy in any form. End of story and keep on about app signing
