Guest Lord Kordir Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 (edited) Hi guys, My Orange contract finishes on the 10th of April. I currently have an SPV c500 and it is by far the best phone I've ever had (even surviving a trip down the toilet ;) ) I'm reluctant to continue with Orange because they don't seem to be offering the best deals at the moment. In fact, there current prices are less cost effective than they were when I began my contract. I'm after another Windows Mobile smartphone or possibly a pda phone (depending on size). Currently, the iMate sp5/Qtek 8310 is the perfect phone for me but there isn't a UK network that offers it and it's about £300 sim free. Anyone acquired one on contract? Any recommendations or knowledge of what's in the pipeline over the next month or so? Thanks in advance Edited March 26, 2006 by Lord Kordir

Guest mitch1974 Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I'm with Orange and have the C500, and am getting near to the end of my year with Orange, and they've just rang me and said I can have a C600 for nothing and 10% off my line rental! I don't think that's bad at all! Just ring them and imply that you're going to leave and see what offers they throw your way.
Guest pjam001 Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I bet that wasn't Orange themselves. Many have found that excepting one of those deals where someone phones you up, you end up tied into an 18 month contract when you hadn't expected it.

Its not available from the networks, but there are a few online retailers who will use the comission they get from signing you up to subsidise the phone: On O2: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/o2/7568.htm On Vodafone: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/vodafone/7568.htm If you wan't a different plan i'm pretty sure you can call them up and bargain it out! ps. this is the first site i found, in no way am i implying its the best or cheapest!

You'll be smacked with customs on its way in, and probably VAT too.
Guest moonshot Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 I had a c500 with Orange. I ended my contract after six months, this cost me £99.00 but I sold the c500 on e-bay for £85.00. I then took a 12 month contract with Orange and got the c600. The first 3 months at half price saving £45.00. I was worth it to get the c600 and I will see what is on offer in another six months and maybe do the same again.

I've been offered a free "upgrade" by an unsolicited caller as long as I take a new number "you can have your old number back on a PAYG SIM" but I dont call that an upgrade, thats a new contract in my terminology (I could get that easily elsewhere), an upgrade retains the original number. Has anyone else got an upgrade C500 to C600 out of Orange for free? Matt

They use cold calling to dial through a number range - which is againt regulations. That in itself should tell you they are far from reputable.
