Guest Webreaper Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Well, having had the XDA Mini S for a few days now, I'm pretty much used to it, and have worked out all the apps, plugins, etc., etc., which I will be keeping installed. So in order to make the device run 'lean & mean' I'm thinking I might do a clean install with the basic O2 config, and then just the few bits 'n pieces I've found useful (and reliable...!). So, I need to backup the config of various stuff which I've setup, such as my email accounts, IE favourites, etc., etc., etc before I hard reset the device. What's the best way to do this? If it requires software, it needs to be free (I'd rather re-install from scratch than pay for a backup tool ;) ). Thanks
Guest Webreaper Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Surely somebody has done this?
Guest Echilon Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 You'd have to copy the files to your PC, then re-install the software. Most software you install adds registry entires, so you can't just copy/paste your programs.
Guest Webreaper Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 It's not the apps I'm worried about - I can re-install them. It's more stuff like my IE favourites, email account configurations, etc., etc.
Guest Echilon Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 If you don't want to copy them manually, get something like Sprite Backup which lets you back up your email.
Guest Webreaper Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Does it backup the email, or the email settings? (or both?)
Guest Swampie Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Does it backup the email, or the email settings? (or both?) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It will back up everything on the device (including storage card if you wish!). It can store the backup on the device, or via a PC. Similarly, the restore can be done from a backup file on the device, or on the PC.
