Guest fuel925 Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Just wondering what you use your device for? Mainly I use it for games to alleviate boredom while on my break at work etc and for organisation purposes (calendar, tasks, notes etc). Of course I also use it as a phone ;)
Guest Webreaper Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Email, surfing (I'm using it now), reminders and appointments, music, watching videos, logging into remote servers (using LogMeIn.Com) to monitor My clients' Systems, instant messaging..... All sorts Of stuff really. Haven't actually used it as a phone yet, as my number was only ported at 9pm tonight!
Guest Laser_iCE Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 My two main uses are media and messaging. I love txt'ing on it, as well as listening to mp3's ;) I rarely use it for browsing (due to lack of WiFi at home, as well as lack of free hotspots in .au), however, I have on the odd occasion, but GPRS is a killer here! I use it to watch the odd Family Guy or South Park episode on the train also, but mainly MSN Messenger, Media Player/TCPMP and text messages ;) There aren't too many good games for PPC I've found ... I only play Mini Golf 2 and Age of Empires: Gold Edition, could anyone recommend any other proper games?

I haven't been able to put this game down! I didn't go to bed until 5 AM this morning and that's 3 mornings in a row! I even stopped playing Street Duel: Underground Racing (from clickgamer.com) which is another great game I recommend. -Patrick :(
Guest marcwic Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 I use mine as a phone, also for music in my car (not so good when it rings while you're driving!) Marc

Guest uwaku Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 Reading eBooks, occasional browsing (esp for movie times), tracking my work hours, checking email all day long, directions (Mapopolis or Mapquest), listening to music on my BT headset, and in general, as a PIM.
Guest stunno Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 Reading ebooks, listening to audio books while I'm walking the dog on the beach. If I could think of a way to mass update Outlook with the tide times it would make my life much easier, as I can't be bothered to type them all in!
Guest zombiefly Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 (edited) the wizard is by far the most versatile device i've ever owned. i've got a 2gb memcard, mainly containing music and films. The video/audio reproduction is amazing for a phone. Unfortunately the supplied headphones are pretty poor so i've replaced them with a pair of decent sony ones i used for my mini disc player (i had to buy an adaptor for this). I also bought a bluetooth GPS receiver and the tomtom navigator software. Combined with a brodit dash mount, it works flawlessly as in car sat nav. Combined with a jabra headset, the handsfree works fine in the car, even with tomtom running.....Jump out of the car with the phone and gps, switch on wifi and load up wifi-fo-fum and wander round connecting to unsecured wireless networks... amazing ;) the wizard can be turned into a mass storage device (as mentioned above). Very handy for transporting files around. I also bought a usb gizmo which my minisd card fits into, turning it into a pendrive!.... Games are ok. I'm still looking for decent games, i'll be checking out those mentioned above later. I occasionally use the phone facility. TBH this is the least used feature of the device, 90% of the time i'm ringing myself from a landline to see if it still works :) I love gadgets. I rate gadgets on a few points: initial wow factor, functionality, ability to deliver, reliablity, lastability (the ability to still wow after weeks of ownership) based on this, i rate the wizard: initial wow factor = 10 i was as happy as a perv in a pornshop to be able to touch the screen after owning an e200 and c500. If you were a kid at christmas, the equivalent would be a mountain bike, fitted with a psp, surround sound, heating, internet access, an engine, a secretary and access to nude pictures of your favourite female crush of the moment :( functionality = 9 its leaps and bounds ahead of normal phones, and the keyboard makes internet useage and txting a pleasure rather than a pain. then theres the fact that it turns into a portable media player, allowing you to watch tv progs and films while on the move. Then theres the satnav etc etc, all of which are extremely easy to install and use. ability to deliver =8 this phone does so much more than u expect when u purchase it.. the only thing that lets it down slightly is the processor, but this can be overcome with the omap overclock, albeit at the expense of the battery life. It also appears that changing the rom to the i-mate rom allows skype to work without overclock, something that wouldnt happen with the t-mobile rom. Based on the t-mobile rom though, i'll give it an 8, as it seems this flavour of the rom is a bit clunky compared with others. reliablity =7 hardware wise, it seems like a well built device. I've had it about 3 months so far and its still in perfect condition. I've dropped it once, luckily it was in it's default horrible case, which ironically saved it from exploding into pieces on the floor! I can only award it a 7 though because of the intermittent issues with it locking up, failing to ring etc (these issues have been dramatically reduced since removing the t-mobile rom and carefully selecting my software) I did have problems with random restarts. I've recently updated to an i-mate rom and also painstakingly picked my "default" software. Since doing this, i've had no such restarts. :) For reference, here is the software i use: Magic Button - Provides better task management and adds the ability to close apps directly, instead of leaving them running in the background. I-Launcher - Today screen plugin with tabbed menus Resco File Explorer - Essential file manager. The best there is in my opinion. Pocket Music - Forget all other music players. This is the daddy. TCMP - Media player. Excellent video reproduction TomTom 5.21 - Seems to be the best SatNav software there is, although unfortunately their map data is a bit out of date. I've tried a few different products and all had their pro's and cons, tomtom comes out as the best all rounder wifi-fo-fum - Wireless network scanner. Used with a GPS, u get a radar on screen and can walk towards the networks. If the network is unprotected, you can usually connect to it :) I did initially use spb pocket plus and a few other apps. After using these for a while, i noticed that they slowed the phone down quite a bit, so i've taken them off and tried to replace the functionality with the above. So far, it seems to be working well. lastability = 10 Based on the fact that after 3 months i'm still amazed at what this phone can do, i have to give it a 10. It's the best gadget i've ever owned, period. Combined with the 40mb of data transfer i get, then the phone becomes useful at the weirdest of times as within seconds i can be on the net googling something. If you haven't got one, get one. If you have a t-mobile version, ditch the rom and put the more stable i-mate rom on. Enjoy the device, its awesome. ;) ZF Edited April 7, 2006 by zombiefly
