Guest amnesiak Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 after searching through Google and MoDaCo, I've come to the conclusion that the latest ROM for the Vario is 1.6.2.4 (WWE) As far as I understand, there was supposed to be another update but it's been pushed to July. This update is the AKU2 update (I dont know what it means) Some said that installing the iMate K-Jam AKU2 onto the Vario will work, but will remove all T-Mobile apps and settings. Is this true? If so where can I get the apps and settings back as T-Mobile's website is a blank. Now if all is well, where do I get this latest ROM? Should I take any precautions? What will I gain and lose system wise? Finally, does anyone know where I can unlock the device. Sorry for the truck load of questions. Just want the best since I just got my vario and it seems pretty sluggish. A person from esato said that AKU2 would fix that.
Guest fuel925 Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 Can someone confirm if there is an update available for the MDA Vario?
Guest PayableOnDeath Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 you can find the latest updates from t-mobile at - http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/softwareupdate/
Guest Wozbacca Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 does anyone know of any rom that has the AKU2 thingy? i want to try the direct push email from exchange but my current tmob rom doesnt support it as it doesnt have MSFP
Guest chucky.egg Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 The Vario is the same as the iMate K-JAM, so you should be able to download an AKU2 ROM from their FTP site ftp://ftp.clubimate.com

Guest Stabilo Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 so you don't notice any real improvement by using the KJAM update? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The KJAM ROM is much better than the T-Mobile ROM. Fixed my WiFi. The update is easy enough and it asks which (worldwide) provider you are with during the installation. It doesn't set up everything but a guick google will give you GPRS & MMS for T-Mobile etc.

Guest Smokebeast Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Hey guys I've had mine for about a week now and am getting on with it. Still everythings stock. Trouble with wifi i can find active ports but can't connect just keeps saying available. Off to london this weekend so hopefully i'll have better luck (haven't really had a good bash at it yet) I've had no restarts or anything but i'm wondering if i should update?? I dont have the push email. Not sure if i would use it. I get allot of spam at the moment so would need to solve that issue first. As for getting the T mobile cabs would i just find them then install them individually?? Sorry for the newbie question been a while since having a smartphone/ppc P.s whats this camera tweak?? Smoke
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 If you're having any problems at all I'd recommend the imate ROM - mine is rock solid on it. Read the instructions and follow them carefully, but the ROM unlock (superCID) process is fairly simple. You can get Lokiwiz (which is what does the super CID thingy) from XDA Developers. You dont have to use Push Email, so you can upgrade the ROM and stay as you are there. T-Mobile CABs (presumably for GPRS settings etc) are included in the imate ROM. You can choose the network after a Hard Reset and it installs everything you need. Dont know about a camera tweak, but I dont use the camera very much at all
Guest tsutton Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Can anyone confirm that when doing the upgrade to the i-mate ROM, you can still be able to revert back to the orginial T-Mobile ROM using RUU_Prodigy_1060204_105_11210_TMO_UK_Ship.exe from the T Mobile website? Thanks.
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 No, can't confirm, but I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to. Having said that someone once said that the superCID thing doesn't work on newer ROMs so if the Imate ROM locks it again you could potentially be stuck with it - AFAIK that was never confirmed though. I'll probably be trying it in a few weeks on T-Mobile or O2 devices.
Guest tsutton Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Good thing I asked... thanks. I'm getting annoyed with the T Mobile crap on the Vario... it's making the phone slow. ;)
Guest mandt Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Chucky, Could you let us know if you do this and how you get on? I really want to do this myself and have already downloaded all the bits I need, but obviously if I ever need to take the phone back it needs to have the T-mob setup on it! Thanks
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 TBH i would do it this afternoon - if it's going to fail it does so right at the start of the ROM install and you lose nothing. The problem is that if it works I've got to do it all over again to put the Imate ROM back on and then restore from a backup! I'll see if I can get a test handset from the networks and do it on that. Give me a few days.
Guest welshgaz Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I've just updated to the new TMobile ROM (1.6.2.4). It runs fine, but have read here that running the Imate rom works better and doesnt have any of the TMobile junk. Is this right? What do I lose from the TMobile ROM? Does the device work just as well with this rather than the TMob? Cheers Welshgaz
