Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone had bought a T-Mobile device with copilot included in the package and could give me some guidance.

Does the copilot software come pre-installed on the device or do you have to do this yourself. I ask since i think the latter could prove to be difficult using my mac.

also is the software dependant on having other software on your windows pc in order merely to function?

many thanks

I don't have a T-Mobile device - I'm on Orange with a SPV M500. However, I do run CoPilot which I brought over from my old Pocket PC after it came to an untimely death. You should have a CD with the software and maps on, an SD card with the software and a plastic card with your licence key on. If it has not already been installed the it should install from the SD card once you slot it into your phone.

CoPilot itself, once installed to your phone, is fully useable without the need for a PC - you can search for places/addresses by Road Name/City/Town/Postcode etc and all of the options are available. The only thing you cannot do without a PC is use the software on the CD which is simply on a bigger scale.

If you have no access to a PC and card reader then I would strongly advise you take a full backup of your SD card before you start using it. If your card should lose everything (it's known to happen and it has to me!), you will lose the CoPilot installer. The only way to recreate it is with the CD (and hence the need for a PC).

Anyway, I was a complete novice with SatNav when I first got CoPilot - it's pretty straightforward and doesn't throw up to many things to confuse you. Have fun and happy SatNavving! ;)

When the package all arrives, there will be a custom, nicely designed, T-Mobile/Co-pilot box.

Inside this, will be two individual boxes - one for the handset, as normal, the other for co-pilot.

Inside the co-pilot box will be the CD jewel case, containing three CD's and a memory card - usualy a 256MB variety, branded co-pilot, with the software already on, and around 80MB still free left available to the user.

There will also be a Co-pilot branded GPS unit - and a nice one it is too, as well as a dearth of cables for charging.

To get it running, you pop the memory card in your device, and the Autoplay function of it asks if you want to install - it is NOT pre-installed on the dvice - it cant be - the device is clean, and doesn;t even set itself up until you run the first configuration tool (in the case of Pocket PC's).

Follow the prompts, and co-pilot will be installed on your device (I prefer to install to DEVICE memory, not memory card, for speed reasons etc).

In the future, if you have any major issues, the co-pilot website will tell you how to format a memory card, and re-set it up with just the files you need for UK maps, should this ever be necessary, or you own your own larger card etc.

HTH.

That's just what I wanted to hear - I haven't opened the boxes, now I know I can sell CoPilot and my Compact II unopened on eBay - I should get more if I sell the seperatly.

Loving T-Mobile on my Exec ;)

Thanks shademehr.
