Guest chet255 Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I bought a new motorola mpx220 on ebay. It is an unlocked cingular phone but I have T-mobile. Is there anyone that I could get to fix my phone for free if something goes wrong? Or is there even someone I could get to insure a phone under these conditions?
Guest hotphil Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I doubt it very much. The original network are well within their rights to refuse as it's been unlocked and Moto could well refuse too as you/the previous owner have unlocked it. You may be able to get it insured, but as soon as any insurer finds out the device has been altered (albeit just unlocking) from it's original state I imagine they'll walk away.
Guest chet255 Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 So there is nothing I can do if something just stops working
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 Only thing to try is home contents insurance but for actual warranty these are not normally transferable.

Maybe the o.p can clarify - is it just 'unlocked' in it's normal state or has it been unlocked after supply by a third party? Anything that can be unlocked can be locked again ;-) In my experience Moto will go on date of manufacture + 15 months if you have no paperwork, although an mpx220 will be getting on a bit now - does your box have the update sticker on it i.e is it definatley US market stock?
