How often can we expect a ROM update?

I'm new to the whole "having a phone that's been released in the past 12 months" group of people, you see. I bought my smartphone2/e200 about 2 years ago, because to me, in comparison to my nokia, it was revolutionary, however, I was about 12 months late on the last ROM update for it, and thus, never got to really feel the excitement of updating my phone!

So I'm here with the K-JAM, and I updated as soon as I heard the news, but... Now I want more.

With your experience when it comes to having new phones (as I see a lot of you go through quite often), how often can we expect a ROM update do you think? Of course a lot of things can be taken into consideration, but those aside, what is roughly the average time?
