How to run software for PDA on Smartphones

Hi everyone,

I have just recently switched from Qtek 9100(identical to I-mate K-JAM, 02 mini S and MDA Vario) to Qtek 8310 (identical to I-mate SP5 and O2 Orion). None of the programs I used to work with can install on my new phone. I have heard that maybe you have to emulate touchscreen in order for them to work.

Can somebody help with thi problem?

Thank you

1) The lack of tap control can be (partially) solved with the Remote control from PC. For example, you run the program and it has the tap control on the start screen, kind of some initial settings, which are need only once. Unhappily this control isn't available using Smartphone's joystick. Run the emulator and activate the required field. See Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys, file WindowsMobilePowerToys.msi (near to bottom).

(On HTC Tornado this program reports an error due to unrecognised processor, to resolve this, directly copy the files cerdisp2.exe and KillProc.exe in \Windows directory.)

2) Some programs written for PocketPC contain the installation script, which is not compatible with WM5 for Smartphones. In some cases this issue can be fixed with adding the installation script in appropriate format. Use the utility GetDATInfo from Windows Mobile PowerToys. After the XML-file is created, replace two "version strings" in header with these:

Then rename the file to _setup.xml and insert it into CAB-file. Because I don't have a full-option CAB archiver, I unpacked the original CAB to some empty directory, copied the _setup.xml there and packed all files again with the cabarc.exe utility from Microsoft.

Using this method I installed yesterday the Agile Messenger 3 beta for PocketPC on my Smartphone. (There are numerous issues with this program, but it works!)
