Guest GuyAdams Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 My smartphone career is limited, I'll be the first to admit but since my C500 I've just wanted more and more. I currently have a i-mate SP5 which I feel a little disappointed with, not in the usual way but simply because it hasn't broken as many boundries as my old C500 did. Don't get me wrong its a fantastic device to own and the recent push email upgrade and made it a god sent in my life but I want and yarn ground breaking technology as the C500 was, it was small, well built, great functionality, good battery and just a pleasure to use. What I want next is: WM5 Touch Screen (at least 240 x 320, preferably 640 x 480) Wi-Fi (couldnt live without this option anymore) 2MP Camera (or greater!) 3G (for god sake someone please give me a 3G WM smartphone) Bluetooth If a PPC or PDA QWERTY keyboard ...and as small as possible! I know the Universal (qtek 9000/ imate jarjar..etc) pretty much ticks all the above but in this rapidly changing market I feel its getting old. Also I think I would be ashamed of lifting it to my ear to make a phone call or though if one came along at the right price I'd snap it up because I think its an incredible device. So guys, what is my next WM device and will I be disappointed as with my SP5? Any suggestions or information, feel free to follow. Regards GuyAdams
Guest swivel Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 If you're disappointed with your SP5 (I have the T-Mobile SDA, flashed with the latest iMate ROM), then you're simply too difficult to please. The SP5(m)/SDA is outstanding. I agree that 3G would be nice, but cameras are for kids, QWERTY keyboards are for the unadaptable, and touch-screens are take-'em-or-leave-'em as far as I'm concerned.
Guest asphire23 Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 You could get O2 Atom, or wait for the next better version. It has everything you mention

I wouldn't swap for love or money but compared to the impact that the C500 had on me, it just doesn't quite hit the spot. As for too difficult to please....always! I always want more, the more useful technology that HTC and other manufacturers can pack into those little devices, the happier I'am. Just a quick note, one of the disappointments is I actually need to send my phone back as it has an regular sound issue where all sound quality depreciates and the joy stick doesnt always work first or second time round. Thanks for your response, was hoping to get a few more opinions from people. Regards Guy
Guest gilesjuk Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 I agree, the C500 (SP3. typhoon) was a ground breaking unit as far as making Windows phones palleatable. Why? It was small, battery life was an improvement, fairly feature rich, huge screen and the user upgradeable ROM upgrade facility is very welcome (those who have posted Sony Ericsson phones back to a service centre will know what a chore that is). It was largely the same size as other "dumb" phones of the time, T610 etc. While the SP5 (tornado) improves in many ways, I did feel a bit disappointed myself at first and it took some getting used to. Responsiveness was reduced, I removed the anti-virus which helped, but it's still slower than the C500. The camera is still rubbish, I own digital SLRs and while I don't expect anything brilliant, it could at least rival "dumb" phones like the Samsung D500. The back of the device looks like they didn't get round to finishing it. But the front is good and the keyboard is much improved. Anyway, needless to say I have a Mio A701 phone now and it is faster and generally fun to use. There's not enough software around for the WM5 smartphones.

Developers just dont seem to like porting there apps to devices which technically aren't far behind there PPC/PDA devices specification wise. Thanks for all your opinions.
Guest tsutton Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 What about T-Mobile's Vario - would it be good enough? I'm too on C500 and is looking for a better phone.
Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 (edited) Is the TMobile SDA the same as the SP5? (i.e. WiFi etc)? *EDIT: Ah, I think I know what you mean now. You're referring to the US version which is WiFi enabled, but the European version is called SDAII, but isn't available in UK yet. ;) Edited April 13, 2006 by JOEJOETHEJOEY
Guest furioso Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 My ideal smartphone has quite a few gadgets on it: -QVGA screen or higher -WiFi -GPS -3G -miniSD slot -touchscreen (but isn't a priority) -VolP -FM radio ;) so far not 1 device has these things. The things I really want is WiFi, QVGA screen and GPS. I've seen devices that had 2 out of 3, but not one single one which had it all...

I think thats close to your requirements. I've been looking at a K-Jam but no 3G.
