Guest craigd Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Hello, I have an WM5 imate sp5. I noticed there is an option for PocketMSN to "download new email automatically" what does this option do? I setup my Hotmail alerts to send me an SMS when i get new messages but it doesnt actually download the full message or anything when i get new messages. What is the purpose of this then? Basically , i just want to get my hotmail on my phone when a new message arrives, without having to check (send / receive ) all the time. is there any way to configure this? Thanks

Guest Islanti Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 I've posted in several forums about this exact issue. While no one seems certain, it's safe to say at this point that SMS notifications are not supported. You have to manually download the mail for Hotmail. Seems silly to me, given PocketMSN is already on the device. If T-Mobile in the US can do it with their devices, why can MS? My guess is they don't want Hotmail competing with Exchange (which has the SMS notification). And I don't think the "download automatically" does much. It's supposed to periodically sync with Hotmail. I've seen it do that, but only very sporadically.

Hopefully there will be some progress on this issue in the future (it seems silly to put the option in pocket MSN and it not work properly). Still absolutely love my MDA Vario though! Once again, thanks for the reply, Martin
Guest Tech Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 I always get the full message via sms without any problems (on my C500 and Imate SP5m) I also have a vario but never check my email on it ;)
Guest Thundercats Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 (edited) This software comes with most smartphones but one has to pay $19.95 to activate the feature. I paid for Pocket MSN, and I also pay for a data plan. So why should I ALSO have to pay for an SMS (or Text messenging) plan? Microsoft is not affiliated with Sprint. There is nothing for Microsort to gain from this. This makes no sense! Shouldn't this program send/recieve AUTOMATICALLY?! After downloading all my mail, it should alert me when I have NEW mail?! Yes, I even tried to edit this account. There is no option to do so. I wasted my money on this program! Stay away from this RIPOFF!!! Why does microsoft include programs on their smartphones with all of these options, to then charge you $20 for a program that uses SMS when it really shouldn't have to? What you're saying is, the Pocket MSN har an activation fee?? Here in Europe, it works fine without paying anything....What's more, it always downloads the new mail if I connect to Pocket MSN, it creates a Hotmail folder, but then when I try to go in and send/recieve in it when not connected to Pocket MSN, it downloads nothing, even I know I have new emails..
