Hi folks, after much deliberation I decided to go for a C600, which arrived today!

I was all excited and couldn't wait to start customising until I tried plugging into computer... Seems this phone only works thru Activesync 4, which in turn will only install to Win2k or XP, and seeing as I am still on win98 I seem to be a little bit stuck without paddle!

Has anyone successfully worked around this?

BTW I would be happy if I could just get my customised ringtones on the phone for now (caus stock tones are still sh!t) so would a multi card reader be adequate to put stuff on the miniSD or does some form of 'conversion' need to be done to files first?

Thanks

Olly.

ActiveSync 3.8 supports windows 98, you could give that a try

Nothing happens with active sync 3.8 on USB. I tried 3.8 with infra red and the phone came back with 'active sync 4 and above required'. :?:

You should still be able to get AS 3.8 from the Microsoft site but otherwise a card reader will do for most things. Transferring ringtones and other media is no problem and you'll have done all the conversion you need on the PC already.

You won't be able to sync with Outlook but you can copy across cab files and install software from the card with a file explorer.

Thanks Disco Stu, I still have AS3.8 from my C500 days, and I no longer have this phone. do you think this is a ploy by MS to get people to upgrade to XP or is it just an oversight / development cost thing?

Think I will kick off to Orange about this as it just says 'Windows compatable' on their website  Wander if they would offer to buy me a card reader for the sheer disapointment caused ;)

Oh, does anyone know any REALLY cheap card writers out there?

Microsoft don't support Windows98 any more and, since most other software won't like it either, you're best off getting rid of it.

How cheap is "cheap" ?  ;)

Cheap AND funky little card reader

Thanks for your help.

Hi eole73, I don't suppose you could offer a little on the way of translation could you....?

Not sure whether to thank you yet or not ;)

just install the program, run it and change the activesync mode to serial. You will then be able to connect to activesynch 3.8. I didn't test it but the feedback seems to be positive.

 Just saw the b!*@dy price for this package - A heck of a lot of money to get connected ;)

Thanks Eole73 but I think I will stick to my card reader when I get it!
