SPV C500 RED LIGHT LED :(

My mate dropped my phone two days ago on to a tiled floor. The phone didn't appear to be broken or faulty at all at the time. I even managed to use TomTom navigator to go to the airport, but for some reason when I looked at it before I went to sleep, the phone was off. I assumed the battery had gone (even though it should have lasted at least another day). I tried to plug in the mains charger, but the LED showed a red light. I left it plugged in while I slept, but it was the same this morning. The phone won't power on at all. I've read that this normally happens on a flat battery, but I am pretty sure it still had juice for another day.

I'm worried it might have broke something when it was dropped. Confused as to why it took a few hours to make any effect. ;)

Should I try and get a new battery to try or is the phone dead?

I also notice that even without the battery in the phone, the LED will still light up as red when plugged in to the mains.

Any tips please?

Why not ask a friend with the same phone and try his/her battery in your phone. Then if the problem is cured, you know which direction to go in eg. new battery =)

Plus plugging your phone into the mains with out the battery in can cause some damage too

I don't know anyone else with the same phone. ;) Most of my mates use Sony Ericssons and Nokias. :P

Eeek, didn't know that. ;)

Such as what exactly?....they have protection circuits / fuses to prevent overheating, having the battery there or not there makes no difference. Do you use rechargeable AA batteries? Do you ALWAYS charge using all the available battery slots? Do you always unplug it after charging and removing the batteries? No? Because the charger is intelligent enough to shut down....

It isn't rocket science.....

It sounds more like one of the pins to the battery is dislodged so that although the battery will power the phone the phone will not charge the battery. It does not sound like the USB socket is loose as the red LED shows there is power to the phone although there could be a short on the board in the charging circuit from a broken / dislodged componant. Red LED usually means the battery *isn't* charging either because it's too flat or there is a fault.

hmm I would say if it wouldn't turn on because of the fall, then it would have broke on the spot, thats only logical.. but its possible the battery got messed up...... another improtant point here, its stupid how u can't turn on the device just with a power supply (cord), isn't it? I would try getting a bettery off ebay for fairly cheap!

I guess I'll have to give a new battery a try. ;) Thanks for the input.

My new battery arrived today. ;) But to my horror, the phone still shows the RED light. :P I left it plugged in for nearly 10 hours, but still the same.

I guess it must have been something when it dropped. Very confused as to why it only died a few hours after and not on the spot. Is there any way I can try and repair it myself? If not, who would I get to fix it? Would it be worth it?

I've been looking everywhere but can't find a solution to fix the problem. I'm considering buying a new smartphone. Is the iMate SP5 the best alternative at the moment? Are there any new models coming out soon?

The cheapest I've found the SP5 with contract is from:

Is that a good deal?

I wouldn't give up on the c500 just yet. Have you opened it to see if anything looks amiss? Does your computer recognize it when plugged in?

A lot of people have had the red light issue before - usually they resolve by unplugging / replugging the mansn adaptor frequently until it goes orange.

I haven't opened it up as yet, but I don't think I'd be able to fix it by doing so. I'm crap with electrical repairs. ;)

Nothing happens when I plug in the USB cable to the PC. Not even a sound. I can't do a hard reset either, nothing shows up on the screen.

I'll give the plugging and unplugging thing a go. But how will that fix the problem?

Thanks for the info!

Hmmmm.....this is very strange.

I just tried opening it up. Took it all apart and tried to switch it on with just the battery connected to it and it amazingly switched on. I even tried plugging in the mains charger and the LED showed ORANGE light (charging stage).

As happy as can be, I carefully put the phone back together, but strangely, it won't turn on again and the LED shows RED. ;) I've now tried to take it apart again, but it still lights as RED. :P

So very very strange. I notice that there is a very small cell battery on the phone, could it be that this little battery has died?

Backup battery failure wouldn't stop it switching on. More likely there is something pressing agaisnt a contact or joint from the casing causing a break in the battery circuit?

Don't give up just yet :-)

I suspect so too, but I don't know how to tell what's wrong with it. ;) Arrrgjj, it's so annoying when you see it work for a bit then not work again. :P

I wonder if this is anything related to my problem of the red light being on all the time... the phone works ok but the light is always red unless when charging when it is orange,

have tried a rom upgrade and a hard reset and still a red light all the time.....

anyone else?

P.s. mine is a C600

Cheers
