Need Activesync help!

I have a Dell Axim x30 using Activesync 4.1 with no problems. I just got a T-Mobile MDA but can't get it to sync with my PC.

I have two USB ports with the x30 in one and the MDA in the other. Like I said, the x30 syncs fine but Activesync just stays on "Connecting..." without ever seeing the MDA. No, I'm not trying to use them both at the same time.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to resolve this? I really would like to be able to sync both devices on my PC.

Welcome to the site ;)

Activesync can only sync one device at a time, you will have to physically

disconnect the Axim before the MDA will be seen.

Do I have to disconnect it from the USB port or just disconnect it? I did the latter but the cradle is still plugged into the USB pot on the computer.

Okay, I tried completely disconnecting the Axim x30 from the computer and used the same USB port to hook up the MDA. However, I am still getting the same problem. It's not even trying to set up a new partnership.

I thought Activesync could handle two devices on the same PC. If it can't, is there another program I can use instead? I really need to be able to sync them both but only have one PC here. ](*,)

I got my answer! See below.

AS 4.1 getting stuck on connecting is usually due to firewall, VPN, or other such software.

First, open a command prompt (start > run > cmd) and run IPCONFIG to make sure that the Local Area Network connection is assigned an IP address. It should say 169.254.2.2.

Then try at the command prompt type

telnet 169.254.2.2 26675

More than likely port 26675 is being blocked so you'll get an error message.

That means you'll need to find out what software is blocking it and either disable or configure it to allow the connection.

My Zone Alarm was blocking the connection. Now to see if I can get ZA and the sync to work together.

Activesync can support more than one device but not at the same time. You do need to disconnect one before plugging the other one in.

Unfortunately there is no oher application you can use that replaces Activesync and can also sync more than one device at a time.

as awarner said - that is correct. If you want to use more than 1 device, the expensive way would be to use exchange server and mobile exchange and then connect your devices but of course, this is not really for home use.

Just thought I would "chip" in and share the options/solutions that are available ;)
