Guest jennyx Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Hi, I'm kinda new to this so I don't know what I went wrong ;) Please help! I'm using SDA II (music) and want to upgrade to WM5. I was adviced that the process would be the same as with the SPV C500 so I tried to backup and install WM5 But the problem occurred at the very early stage. I tried to backup the first following the instructions in this topic ---> http://www.modaco.com/Backup_your_Typhoon_ROM-t201334.html First, when I tried to launch Tera Team Pro (ttermpro.exe) I couldn't select USB under the Serial menu, instead it was COM3 no matter what laptops or USB ports I used (tested on 3 laptops and they were all the same!) So I tried with COM3, but when it came to the commands, r2sd all or other r2sd didn't work. I could typed it but after hitting Enter, the flashing cursor came back to the start of the line and I could only overwrite the r2sd commands  Since it didn't work, I skipped the backup process and went to the flashing bit  everything went fine following this ---> http://www.spv-developers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=382 until it got to the mtty1.42.exe flashing tool bit (I downloaded mttty.exe after searching on google, hope they are the same) Again I couldn't select USB from the port, only COM3 worked :P So the instructions were" "The Multi-Port USB TTY main window will now appear. * Hit enter on your keyboard if a Cmd> prompt does not display right away. " ---> the Cmd> prompt did not appear at all even after I hit Enter ;) Skipping that part again, I tried to type " l c:\myalias.bin" to start flashing but the same thing happened as when I tried the r2sd commands. Nothing happened, the cursor just came back to where it started  I'm really desperate as installing WM5 is the only way to make my phone works  and I'm kinda new and don't have experience with Smartphone. If someone could help me step by step with this over Yahoo Messenger or MSN chat or email then it would be great  My email address is [email protected] Thanks in advance
Guest fluffcat1 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 I'm using SDA II (music) and want to upgrade to WM5. I was adviced that the process would be the same as with the SPV C500 so I tried to backup and install WM5 The SDA is a feeler (typhoon derivative) but afaik the SDA IIm is a hurricane? So the typhoon wm2005 rom won't work. I'm really desperate as installing WM5 is the only way to make my phone works  and I'm kinda new and don't have experience with Smartphone. If someone could help me step by step with this over Yahoo Messenger or MSN chat or email then it would be great  Why not just re-load the original rom if the phone will not work?...wm2005 isn't going to make a faulty phone spring back to life and if the rom is not corrupt ( I assume not as you wanted to back it up) then a hard reset should fix most issues. *it was designed for wm2003se* the wm2005 roms out there may not necessarily be better, and some may not even work fully. You'll get no support from microsoft or the phone manufacturer or network. If you don't have any experience of smartphones maybe take it slowly and don't run before you can walk. Loading roms not designed for that model phone *and* getting them to work isn't easy - if you don't know what you're doing and can't find a step by step guide using google I'd leave it else you'll end up damaging your phone and then you'll get really stuck...unless you can live with having a nice paperweight. Maybe if you told us the reason you need wm2005 to make your phone work we could help you sort it on wm2003? Richard
Guest jennyx Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 The problem is: I don't know what's wrong with my phone ;) I used it over a year now (bought off ebay from Holand) It was unlocked and worked fine. But a week ago I turned off the phone to use put my sim in another phone and after a few days I turned the phone on and it no longer worked. It recognised all networks and the fone functioned perfectly ok but couldn't make any outgoing or receive incoming calls. My friend told me that it could be barred due to some reasons, most likely because the seller of the phone claimed lost :P My friend suggested I should flash the rom to solve the problem. So that's the only way that I know so that's why I'm trying to upgrade to WM5
Guest fluffcat1 Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Yes it does sound like it has been barred, although usually it only get's barred in the country of origin - are you in Holland as well?. If you have a receipt / email off ebay you may be able to go to your network and ask them to unbar it, or you could ask them to check their logs to see that you had been using that phone IMEI with your sim for the last year. Can you trace the seller? Might be worth asking them?... I would call your network and ask them if the IMEI has been barred for definate. Then try to trace the seller, then go to your network to prove you bought it in good faith on ebay a year ago and ask them to help, finally go to the police as the seller has either fraudulently claimed on his/her insurance for your 'lost' phone or has defrauded you by claiming your item is stolen. Changing the o.s ROM will ****NOT**** change the identity of the phone so you may as well not bother trying. AFAIK it is ***impossible*** with all but the earliest HTC devices, (and even then only early versions of the wallaby / XDA) and it is against the law in this country to do so. If all else fails, currently not all countries share the IMEI database of barred phones. ;) Richard
Guest jennyx Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Thanks Richard it has been very helpful of you. It was too long ago and I found it almost impossible to trace ;) I'm in the UK and it's too strict in here. All I could do is wandering forum and forum to find any solution. I might sell it off for 55 quids but if I could fix it then I could sell the phone for almost double so I'm making some effort fixing the phone ;) Anyway I might keep the phone and wait until I come back home in Asia during the summer holiday. As you already know everything is legal in there :P Thanks again! Jen
Guest fluffcat1 Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 No problem. So you bought it via Holland but it's barred in the UK? That's a bit strange.....but more and more countries / service providors are signing up to the IMEI database....soon only Nigeria will want the phones! ( the operators there know where the handsets come from and don't care  ) PM me the seriel and I'll check which country it was approved / supplied for. What network are you currently trying to use it on? Have you unlocked it and tried others on a different frequency? Do you get three ' beeps' when trying to make a call or just no signal? Richard
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Anyway I might keep the phone and wait until I come back home in Asia during the summer holiday. As you already know everything is legal in there ;) You may be able to change the imei in another country, but if you did manage it and returned to the UK with said handset you would still be commiting an offence as barred phone is only barred because it has either been reported stolen or there is an outstanding contract payment where the previous owner had not paied his bill.
Guest fluffcat1 Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 barred phone is only barred because it has either been reported stolen or there is an outstanding contract payment where the previous owner had not paied his bill. Orange bar lost phones as well as stolen ones. I wonder how that works if you hand one in to the police (yeah right - 'cos that happens a lot) as lost property is yours legally after 3 months so it's no longer ' lost' - will they un-bar the phone? Will the police ask the network to trace the original owner? And what about these sales of lost property the transport police do every few months? Everything else you buy is legally yours, free and clear, so why not the phones as well?...... I know they say they might bar an IMEI for non-payment but has anyone ever ever known that to happen?... Richard
Guest jennyx Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Well I really don't know about all those IMEI stuff. Richard also told me that if the phone is barred it would beep 3 times when making a phone call but there is no signal at all when I tried making a call. A friend of mine suggested it put the phone near a computer and tried making a call. There is no usual vibrating sound on the computer (as it always happens when a phone is working fine) so that friend said that the GSM or signal receiver or something like that in my phone is not working but this is very difficult to recover. Still couldn't figure out any explanation for this ;)
