Nope. But I'm basically dying for it.

COME ON AGILE!

I got tired of waiting for the smartphone version so I asked my friend who has a K-jam to install the WM5 PPC beta version, zip up his AgileMessenger folder and email me a copy of it. I unzipped and installed it in \Storage Card\Program Files\ and ran Messenger.exe and Voila! It works very very well even without the stylus. However, for the few times a stylus is needed, FakeCursor or sphelper come in really handy (i.e., invoking a URL).

PS, I would attach the zip file, but I'm not sure if it's allowed here.

Hi G35C,

I had thought of doing similar things with this and/or other software... I don't have a friend with a WM5 PPC, however.

Do any of you think that you could use a WM5 emulator to do this type of thing?? Basically install PPC apps, then copy the files to the WM5 smartphone?

Thanks,

Or you can use WINCE cab manager (10 day trial or something i think it has) to extract the cab and copy it directly over to your smartphone.

Actually it is quite possible to use wm2003se agile msngr.

The only thing is that it comes in 176x220pix resolution pretty funny covering only part of a screen ;)

Yes, and that's the most annoying thing..... Both WinCE 2002 and WinCE 2003 works just fine, but the problem is you get a very small chat window..

Hello,

maybe my experience could help somebody... I'm also waiting for release of Agile Messenger for Smartphone, but I have recently installed AM beta for Pocket PC on my HTC Tornado (SP5). If you also wish to test this beta, make the installer for Smartphone (it's not so hard), I attached here 2 files in ZIP.

First of all, get the file cabarc.exe from Microsoft. Unpack the original cab to empty directory, add the file _setup.xml from archive (it's the XML-installer for Smartphone) and pack all back to, for example, agilesp.cab using command:

cabarc n agilesp.cab *.*

Then copy the CAB to Smartphone and run it. After end of installation please replace the file registration.xml with the file in archive, I have increased there the height of name/password fields, otherwise they would be difficult to check at input.

However, this version for Pocket PC has two major issues, which cannot be fixed via XML configs: in the edit fields the key "back" closes the program's screen instead of delete last character, and the font for messages on the talk screen is extremely small and hard to read. So it's a temporary solution, I really hope that beta version of AM for Smartphone will be ready soon...

I'm sure it won't be ready soon. It should have been ready at the same time as the PPC version was released. The amount of changes needed to port the PPC version to Smartphone are SO SMALL that the only reason I can think of that Agile hasn't made the changes yet is because they're lazy and want to put off making profits for as long as possible. They're afraid of money.

Yes, highly possible, seeing that they now charge for the usage of other versions than the betas. And they have to make the SP WM5 a beta first, so another version not serving as that much of a cash-cow ;)

Ok I'm a noob, but I'm just wondering how I get the .cab out of the original .exe from agile's site?

I tried with the alpha .cab, extracted and created a new .cab with the following files on it:

You have to extract the .cab file with WinCE Cab Manager 2.0 - you can get it from here:

http://www.ocpsoftware.com/products.php?nm=cecabmgr

Then choose the .cab file and "open with..." the app. Then copy all the files you got extracted to the same dir on the storage card or internal mem, wherever you want it.. ;) Works fine here.

Have to correct myself here - it seems as if Agile has put an .exe file on the homepage, before it was a .zip archive with an installer.exe file and one .cab file.. I don't think I'm allowed to put that file on the forum, sorry.

It's not difficult, indeed. Simply run the AgileMessengerWMPPC.exe file and then check the directory in ActiveSync, on my computer it was C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\AgileMessenger. No matter that the installation was unsuccessful, only thing that you have to do is take the file messenger.cab. After that you can uninstall the AM using Uninstall.exe.

P.S. The worst is, Agile seems stops the development of Smartphone version and still doesn't release almost ready AM for PPC.

I tried it, tried recompressing with the setup file you created, didn't work black screen on application start. Thanks for trying to help.

Don't worry about it. It's not worth installing anyway. It's a mess on the Smartphone.

At least it works on my SP5. Well, I have attached here the fixed installer, it includes the modified registration screen. (To moderators: please count this program as the part of Agile beta test, which is carrying out now.)

Though the worth of this version is relatively low for Smartphone because of number of issues, however, you can connect to server, see whether your friends are online and even write them the couple of words ;)

I got it to work. I got my hands on the installed AgileMessenger directory. The problem was I misread someone's instructions and decompressed all the files to one directory, whereas the program is looking for subdirectories. Of course I had to use the backspace button to correct a typo in my MSN account information so I got kicked out immediately and haven't had time to mess with it again. Thanks everyone for helping out a smartphone noob! I really love this device and hope there'll be more progs out there for it.
