Don't know when it happened and why but can't connect my Vario to either home or work PC.

I want to upgrade the ROM but want to copy off contacts (to PC or mem card). If a hard reset would do it that would be fine but can I get contacts off 1st?

Thanks for any help.

How is it not syncing? I presume you are using the USB cable and ActiveSync 4.1 If so what happens, does it connect to the Phone but not sync the contacts? I had this problem. Had to goto control panel, add/remove, choose MS office, change, then untick outlook so it uninstalls. Once thats done go back into it and tick it again so that it installs ;) this worked for me.

Thanks mate. No the PC simply doesn't see the phone via USB. Manually forcing a connection doesn't find it either. To be honest I've got issues with 2 other USB devices at the moment but that doesn't explain the same issue with the phone on my work PC also.

So I beamed all my contacts 1 by 1 to an Orange C550 I have. Hard reset the phone with the System/Settings/Clear Storage tool. Booted up and - still no connection to phone via ActiveSync4.1. This time I'm on WinXP. Tried USB2.0, USB1.1 and my work XP and home w2k machines. No connection at all.

What on earth is there left to try?

When you connect, does it charge? If yes, then you know there is a connection, otherwise, it's a faulty cable... If it does charge, make sure activesync is running on your phone too... ;)

Yep charging. Noticed an unrecognised USB device in Device Manager. Tried the C550 on the same cable but no go. Removed all other USB stuff and hub and plugged cable directly into PC - this time C550 is detected and ActiveSync pops up automatically but still the Vario won't.

I ruled out cable issue before as I've used 2 different cables at home and at work.

Apart from clicking on ActiveSync on the Vario how can I "run" it? I just assumed the PC version detected the USB connection.

They are notoriously bad via USB hubs - particularly as WM5 uses a network protocol rather than a serial one.

First step is to delete all partnerships in activsync. Then uninstall activesync. Reinstall activesync (you can get 4.2 beta now). Then plug the device in via the USB. If it doesn't see it, then the device has "issues"...

It's never been plugged in via the hub - but a hub was in there also. ActiveSync4.1 was installed today. There are no partnerships ;)

EDIT: After 3 hours mucking about in the T-Mob shop and on the phone it has gone off for repair/replacement with few questions asked. If I get a nice shiny new one I'll be really happy.
