Sometimes, after using WMP where it's still open in the background but not playing, I've noticed that the battery goes flat quite quickly.

Does having applications open in the background use more battery? i.e. should I be using task manager to kill apps after I use them?

Thanks ;)

well... they use RAM memory. so the phone has to do some more calculations for theses apps. so its battery life is consuming i assume... i always kill all apps in background (except appman.exe (as it is for start menu)) and in my imate rom of my c600 it shows (under sp task manager) up to 52% of free memory RAM (about 26MO)

I see. Suppose it doesn't do any harm to kill the apps if I'm not using them then. ;)

Windows Mobile is designed so that applications in the background are supposidly not using system resources but are ready to activate when you need them.

Unfortunately it's been shown this is not always the case. As for media player in the background is it still actually playing or have you just paused the music\video?
